I was disappointed to see that the gentleman I visited had not been shaved, nor do I believe had he been showered or had a sponge bath. No mouth toilet had been done, which was dry and crusty due to lack of fluids or ice to suck. I rang the call bell and waited 30 minutes, and then went in search for the nurses office. Eventually I found the office where 2 staff members were having a chat with the office door closed. I asked the girls if they could assist the gent up the bed, as he required repositioning. The girls were less than enthusiastic, did the rolling of the eyes and gave each other "the look". When they entered the patients room, they did not acknowledge him by his name, nor did they explain what they would be doing. No slide sheet was used, and his position in the bed had not changed. The girl on the left pulled to the left, the girl on the right pulled him to the right. Seriously, the lack of personal care, communication and no education in use of lifting/ moving equipment was well below par. Absolutely disgusting nursing care!. Would these "workers" treat their family members from their cultural backgrounds the same way?
