I was an inpatient at Carinya. I believe this facility was purchased earlier this year by St Jude, who will have a massive job to bring it back from squalor. In my personal opinion, this facility was not fit for use. ****The only outstanding service was the terrific efforts and dedication of Physio and Occupational Therapy**** It will take me too long to relay everything, so I'll limit my words:flying cockroaches in bedroom; dirty linen and blankets on my bed when admitted; inedible & unidentifiable food; excrement smears in bathroom & left for five days on floor & walls; rusted walking frame fell apart - thankgod I managed to fall onto my bed; staff need retraining; many times staff pretend they don't hear or ignore valid requests while relying on client forgetfulness; coffee & tea often unable to drink it as staff member ladled 3-4 tsp of coffee into 250ml cup - they didn't know how to make a cup of coffee! Towels & face washers threadbare; lack of handwashing, gloves, hand sanitiser; most staff apathetic, but some consistently speak in an unnecessarily aggressive & rude manner to patients - this is alarming because what happens when I'm not there? I'm sorry to relay the above, but our elderly deserve the best. All of the above is my opinion & observation. I truly hope this facility has a 100% overhaul & accreditation returned after this. The facility is not fit for purpose, in my opinion, as it currently stands. Thank you for your time.
Terrible facility. Please do not send your loved ones here. Dirty, unhygienic rooms. Understaffed. Poor safety standards. Multiple issues with concerns over medical care, mental and physical wellbeing.
My father was in TCP for a short time as we were compelled to remove him from this environment. The nurses were generally very good in addressing dads needs but it was very obvious that there is a lack/ or very poor, communication through the facility. Staff managing dads transfer came across rude and very unorganized and it appeared every effort was made at every stage to save the facility money, down to halving his napkin each meal. This place should be investigated.
The only reason I have given one star is because the ladies on reception were lovely, else I would of given zero stars. The compassion and empathy were nearly non existent .The care was certainly not there. My Dad was in there transitional area for about 8 weeks and he was deteriorating quickly. I would visit every second day as was so worried about him. My Dad has been in and out of hospitals most of his life. As a child he had T.B and spent 4 years in a sanatorium, so he is no stranger to being cared for. He and other residents likened it to a prison. He has been out of their for two weeks now and still talking about how bad it was. He would cry every time I was there and not let go of my hand. The towels and the flannels were only good for rags I have attached photos that doesn't really show how bad they are .Also of the bed remote. My dad is now out of there and he is happy and eating .So much more regarding his care and medication but to much to write.
