If you can tolerate the strong stench of old lady perfume in the elevators and hallways, the constant barking of residents dogs, and walls so thin you can hear your next door neighbor’s farts then this is the place for you. Maintenance staff is awesome and quick to respond to fix issues but overworked due to the poor quality of the building’s construction. Also the ladies in the rental office are extremely nice, helpful, and professional despite having to deal with all the “Karen’s” that hang out in the clubhouse. With all of the upright walkers and mobility scooters you have to work your way around in the parking garage and the frequent sight of home health care aids and ambulances removing deceased residents, this place is basically a poor man’s Lantern Hill.

We moved in 2 weeks ago after carefully choosing an apartment to downsize and simplify our lives. So far Woodcrest at Berkeley Heights has exceeded our expectations! Our apartment is spacious and comfortable; the buildings and grounds are immaculate; the people we've met are friendly and welcoming; the one time we've used maintenance was an excellent experience. Sp far we're very happy with our choice of a new home.
Walls and floors of this building are devoid of sound deadening used in other new buildings I've lived in. If you are a light sleeper you should steer clear or get used to sleeping with ear plugs. I don't want to sound uncaring with respect to folks who are getting on in years, but at least 2 or 3 times a week my wife and I are disturbed from a sound sleep by the guy upstairs yelling for his nurse and it's always between 2 and 3 AM. That and the fact that it sounds like furniture movers are up there every night around 10/10:30 PM. We have heard voices from next door a few times, but that hasn't been an issue, other than to say it appears to me that the developer chose to cheapen out during construction. Maybe because the building is 55+ they felt it wasn't necessary to do the most they could with respect to sound control measures. Other then this, the property is gorgeous. No expense was spared on the exterior finishes. They are over the top, and interior common spaces are just fine too. The folks who live here are friendly and nice and the ladies in the rental office are helpful. No complaints other than the noise from over head, and that's due to a unique situation in my opinion. We moved out after the second year specifically because they raised the rent each year. The first time it was easier to stay because moving is a hassle. But at the end of two years worth of increases the difference between staying and moving elsewhere amounted to 825 bucks a month. That's a lot. That's the delta. That's when moving far outweighed staying. And I think a lot of folks came to the same conclusion because we saw a lot of empty apartments. After the first year there weren't any. Bottom line we didn't give up anything as far as comfort, convenience and the quality here at the new apartment. We probably should have moved out after the first year, but we might not have found this place.
We moved in last month and from the beginning Gia and Taylor were so very friendly and helpful, always ready to answer questions and always so kind. Met Steven the maintenance guy again so friendly and very helpful. Also met a few neighbors that are so nice. Will be checking out the community room soon.
As first time renters , this has been a wonderful experience . The front desk is professionally manned by Taylor , who is there to answer and solve your questions or problems very quickly . Steve and Willie are absolutely “ the best” if you have an apartment problem. They do everything very professionally. It’s such a great experience if something breaks, you’re not paying a service call of $250- 400. each time. All 3 floors , lobby and elevators are immaculate. Plenty of parking with wonderful indoor parking. The facilities are 1st rate including a large fully equipped gym and many large social rooms. Our location is perfect to Rte. 78 or downtown Berkeley Heights- both within 5 minutes or less - doesn’t get any better. There is plenty of walking areas in the neighborhood. So far this has been a wonderful experience.
