My sister has been at Willows for 3 years now. The staff are truly angels. I could not do what they do, and they genuinely care about the residents. They saved my sister's life when we brought her up from Florida. She weighed 85 lbs and was emaciated. She is now very healthy and a normal weight. I don't understand some of the other reviews. My sister is always clean, checked on regularly, and the staff keep us informed of how she is doing. Her apartment is always spotless. The recreation person does what she can, but many of the residents are unable to do the exercises, play games, and art projects. Nevertheless, she knows all the resident's names and speaks to each of them individually. They do bring in live music on a regular basis. I highly recommend Willows and appreciate everything they have done for my sister.

The Willows of Arbor Lakes memory care unit is an excellent facility and prides themselves on taking excellent care of their residents. In saying this I've had the experience with several elderly family members and other care facilities that were horrific. No place is perfect, and there are unfortunately staff that has to be let go in every facility. The Willows does track that and does let go of people that are not good to the residents. In any situation just like in any company, you'll end up hiring people you regretted. I've read through the other reviews and I can see some of those situations. However, I've seen much worse at many other places that are actually newer and more beautiful. It is hard to find good staff and you tend to weigh out the pros and cons and hope the pros way out the cons. I will say that my father has been there for 5 years now and I have a close relationship with several of the staff that work there that have been there a long term and take care of my dad. I am extremely detailed about my father and worry about him because of Alzheimer's. The staff is patient with me and kind to me and that makes me feel that they understand what I'm going through. I call them frequently and look for help frequently and guidance because I don't know the journey I am on and need to know sometimes what to do and how to make things better. The staff at the Willows has helped me every step of the way take care of my dad. It seems there are people that think the staff should do more than what their contracted to do. I've seen a lot of residents where their family doesn't even visit them or if they do it's rare and they don't bring them shoes or clothes or toothpaste. They would never be able to take care for their family member and are very quick to judge a staff that literally has to care for some of these residents almost 100%. Most of them cannot walk or go to the bathroom by themselves or change their clothes or know where they are. Quite a few have to be fed and washed. I've seen the staff work very hard to care for every individual. I would never leave my father in a place where I did not trust that he would be safe or well cared for. I'm very thankful for the people that take care of my dad and I appreciate them very much. Again, my dad has been here 5 years and is safe and calm and has been through a total knee replacement and a total shoulder replacement while staying at this facility. There's no way he would have come through so well if it wasn't for the staff. The head nurse, Katrice, is one of the best people I have ever worked with and she make sure she walks through care plans carefully with me and ensures I am happy with what we agree upon and that I can track what needs to be done easily. When it comes to care facilities for our elderly family members in Memory Care, it's a journey that is very difficult and hard to manage. I applaud anyone who takes this journey and sticks closely to their loved ones during this time and finds a way to appreciate the people that work so hard to take care of them.
Looking at the Willows at Arbor Lake from the outside, it looks like a wonderful facility. It is new, the lobby is beautiful, and the grounds are well kept. But after being with my mother for a couple of days, looks can be deceiving. This facility is considered memory care. While there, I did not see anything that would stimulate a person’s mind. I was there on a weekend so perhaps the activity coordinator was not there. The most that the staff do is bring them to the common area and have them watch CNN or a Netflix movie. My mom has had a leg amputated and has not mastered walking and transferring without assistance. While I was there, she indicated she needed assistance with going to the bathroom. She pressed her button for assistance, but 15 minutes later there was not anyone coming to assist her. I walked the long hallway to the area where the staff was and requested that they come to assist. As this is a memory care unit, the stove in her room is disconnected. When I was there, I did not see any of the staff coming into her room to make sure that she got to the dining room. It is a long hallway from her room that is carpeted which she is unable to wheel herself without difficulty. I know that it is difficult to hire staff, but I was expecting more of the facility.
I have served patients both as a hospice chaplain and as a volunteer at the Willows of Arbor Lakes for the past three years and they are an incredible team, in a great facility ... caring for the most precious among us. Katrice is one of the best directors of nursing that I have ever met. She has a heart of gold and is an extremely talented and dedicated caregiver. The staff is fantastic and I highly recommend them. They're the best!
My grandma lived here in the memory care unit for several months after being discharged from the hospital. While of course there are some wonderful, hard-working people here that I appreciate so much, for the most part, my grandma was neglected and did not receive the care or treatment she deserves, especially considering the fact that we paid over $6000 per month for her to live there. I understand being short-staffed and overworked, I am a social worker... However, the way I saw some of the workers treat my grandma was unacceptable. Additionally, they did not provide many of the services that we were paying for them to provide. My grandma was lucky if she got her clothes changed once a week, they rarely did activities with the residents, and they told her "they could not help her" when she asked them to help her dial the phone to make a phone call or turn the TV on, etc. They would say things like "you better eat your meal now because you will not get anything later," and overall were just mean.
