The fire that occurred at this facility yesterday 8/21/2024 prompted me to write this review. I read today that the fire started on the second floor leaving 20 units uninhabitable and currently being investigated. Thankfully, the residents were brought to safety. My mom had three stays in 2013, 2014, and the lastly in 2015 when this facility was called Manor Care of Westmont. The first two stays were uneventful, the final stay in August 2015 almost killed her. The nurses and aides failed to observe her distress from medication side effects. She was days away from being discharged home and happy until a medication was prescribed and not monitored. I came in her room to see her sitting up and unconscious, vomited on herself and the pan they put in her lap, and urine covered gown and sheets. The nurse told me she wasn't feeling well before I stepped in her room to her near death. I screamed for them to call an ambulance, her oxygen level was around 70 and they brought in an empty oxygen tank. She was unconscious but instead of calling 911, they called an ambulance they used for transporting "well" patients to medical appointments. At the ER, my mom had toxic levels of a drug in her system and almost died. I never found out for sure, but she clearly was over prescribed this medication. This all happened on the second floor where I feel things go unnoticed. I was hoping when the name of this facility changed their operations would to. I would never recommend this facility. This place deserves zero stars and should be shut down! I had to take my mother out of there by ambulance due to their extreme neglect and lack of general care. My mom literally yelled to get assistance and none ever came. I had to call the front desk to get anyone to attend to her and then she was treated poorly in retaliation. She rarely, if ever, received her critical heart medication and antibiotics on time. The staff manhandled her while changing her bedding which left her with bruises and they left her bed in a position where she couldn’t breathe. She had to be placed on oxygen after that. They failed to recognize basic signs of distress like slurred speech, disorientation and edema. I had to force them to call the ambulance so I could get my mother the care she needed and deserved. Upon arriving to the hospital, she was placed in the ICU for heart and respiratory failure. If you truly care about your loved one, do NOT send them here!
My ex-husband is there. It's an awful place. There were times where he hadn't received dinner. He gets an allowance for disability and they never pay him on time. This place needs to be reported.
My Dad was here for about 8 months in 2023. It is not the most modern looking building but they were clean and we were really happy with the care my Dad received. The in house dialysis center in particular was great. My father was getting dialysis through a tube in his arm and he also had a tube in his stomach for PD dialysis as he planned on returning home. The in house dialysis center took great care to make his dialysis as comfortable as possible and he never got an infection in either tube. The place can be short staffed but the nurses were really friendly and nice to my Dad. My Dad stayed at a few other nursing homes and he said Westmont was the best out of all of them.
My mom went from an assisted living and not showing any signs of dementia until she fell one day and went into the ER. From there she went into a physical therapy facility. So many moves,so quickly, brought out her dementia and we had 2 weeks to find her a memory care place. Westmont Manor was the only one that had availability. We were a little nervous at first because it’s a little run down compared to what else is out there. However, once we got in we were beyond impressed by the people who work there. I go every day to visit my mom, never the same time, but always find her happy and taken care of. They bathe her regularly, got her to eat again when she started to refuse, got her to get out of bed and eat in the dining room. If I need anything they are always willing to get it and never sighed at or treated me like I was bothering them! I have gotten to know Cesar, Sam, D, Emily, Christiana and many more who are amazing at what they do! Staff and care are the best I’ve seen! Sadly, the drive is too far for me and we have to move her closer. Please don’t judge a book by its cover!
