I waited a long time to write this review because I did not want it to come from grief. My mother was a resident there for less than a year. She died September of 2023. I'm giving Westhaven a 1 because of several reasons. My mother had Allzheimer's disease and was a hard case and would often need one on one care. Westhaven administration told me they did not have enough staff for this so they asked if I would come sit with her which I often did. On more than one occasion I would be there doing their job, and there would be several staff there literally doing nothing but sitting in the common area watching TV with NO residents because most were in bed. Or they would be outside in the front smoking particularly in the evenings. I did it anyway. That is one reason. The next is on one day she was given a lethal dose of medication and had to be revived as she nearly died that day with no pulse. That's 2 reasons. The third reason is they evicted my mother stating she was too much to care for. The truth is one of their sister companies was damaged during a tornado in Shawnee and the residents there needed to be moved so they did not need my mother's money anymore. So they took the easy money instead of doing their jobs. So they evicted her and she was moved to a facility an hour and a half away and that nursing home did not tell us that she was close to death and she died alone. I took her to Westhaven because it was five minutes away from me and I could be there in 5 minutes. Some of the nurses there were great, compassionate nurse's and genuinely cared about my mother and other residents. The administration were less. The head nurse not sure of her title, had the bedside manner of a parole officer and showed little to no compassion. To inform me of her eviction they called me in for a meeting which this head or administrative nurse lead with 8 or more admin staff present. Instead of getting to the point the all took turns telling me how difficult my mother was and I had to stop them and ask them to get to the point. They then informed me of her eviction which did not come from a judge. If I had not been so exhausted from 3 years of being my mother's daily caretaker and working 60 hour weeks at my job I would have contested it. The administration should be ashamed of themselves. They do not deserve a 4.5 and some of these reviews are likely pencil whipped. I hope you all get better compassion when you're on your deathbeds. What you did was callous and unforgivable.

My experience here has been wonderful. I feel very safe and know that I am in good hands. The staff is really great and treat me with kindness and compassion. They take care of all of my needs. I feel very well taken care of and totally at home here. Food is good and they have fun and enjoyable activities. Wouldn't want to be any where else!!!
Westhaven is clean, the staff are very helpful and accommodating. They are very patient and gentle with the clients. My visit was to a close friend whom recently had a severe stroke and has lost the use of her dominate side of her body. I was there when lunch was served, which took awhile to be served. My friend is essential bedridden and would have been more secure in the wheel chair if fastened in with a belt. She kept sliding down and could have slipped out if unattended. Foot braces on the chair may have also helped. A head rest would also be more comfortable if that is available. Overall, I feel she is being well cared for under the circumstances. Today (Sunday) I was there at dinner time. Foot braces were on the wheel chair but Jacquie wasn’t secured around the waist. Yet. Two aides noticed she was sliding down and straightened her. The staff where very helpful. Tuesday the staff provided the patients some entertainment through singing and some dancing. Clients seemed to enjoy it. Met my first staff member who was not very friendly. Meet the physical therapist who were very pleasant and helpful. Most of the problems my friend was having in her wheel chair were addressed.
Friendly staff who really seem to enjoy working with the residents, lots of windows so it’s bright and cheery, lots of activities throughout the week (dominoes, musicians, hand massages, puzzles, pet visits, arts and crafts, church services, bingo, etc). A large outdoor courtyard with a covered area, a walking path, even cornhole games. All this is at Westhaven! When we visit we get some coffee (or tea or water) and hang out outside or in the big room/cafeteria. Right now the decorations are Valentine’s Day….always decorated in a fun way. Much better and happier place than where our mom was before!
The building is very old and it shows, trouble heating and cooling. Most of the staff are friendly and competent, C N As are underpaid, but mostly very caring. The kitchen is above average, and food is good. My spouses room is bright and cheery, but heating and cooling not so good.
