My mom lives in the senior living community here with the personalized assistance option and it is wonderful. She’s been here for 4 years and I couldn’t be more grateful for the staff. There is not the high turnover that you see at other places. They are so caring and do their best for the residents. Lots of activities and a lovely restaurant-type dining room is available for the residents to be social. There is even a fun game room on the 5th floor for residents to enjoy with their guests. They really go above and beyond. Don’t hesitate to have your loved ones live at University Place!

My father was transferred on a Sunday evening to recover from heart surgery. My mom didn't like the vibe but we decided to wait a couple of days to judge. By the next day, Monday, they had lost the bottom portion of his dentures. The nurse seemed worried that day, but staff was in full denial by Tuesday. That night around 2am, he was found on the floor. On Wednesday, he was sent to the ER because of chest pain, never noting his fall or the bruising all over his back. He was there a total of 3 horrible days. The MHSW ER nurses couldn't believe the extent of his diaper rash and bruising. Getting a hold of someone was another battle. When we did, there would just update their notes and would look into the matter. I haven't heard from them since. We feel extremely guilty for leaving him there a single minute.
My mother was transferred to UP Skilled Nursing facility after being discharged from MHSW hospital. We were very familiar with the facility as my father spent recovery time there 6 years ago. The level of care has dropped considerably. 24 hours later, I pulled my mother out. She'll never go back unless there's a major change in management. I wouldn't put my dog under their care!
I do not wish for anyones loved one to experience this place! My fathers care while here was sub par at best. He developed bedsores on both feet and did not receive appropriate care for a sore on his buttocks and it became a true health risk to him. He ended up back in the hospital and having to endure a major surgery that has caused complications for him all due to the lack of care received at this place! Do not send your loved ones here!
Both my in laws were at this facility. My mother in law never was happy with their service. She has been gone about two years. My father in law passed away a week ago. He developed a bed sore that became a stage three before they sent him to the hospital!!!! This is not acceptable, they kept telling us that they were trying their best. The infection was so far gone , he could no longer fight it. I complained to the head nurse, I complained to the administrator, and I complained to the director of the facility, who also over sees the nurses. This was not the first incident with either of my in laws. This place needs to be shutdown or get better management from Herman memorial since it is their facility
