I chose this place for my mother because of their rating on the Medicare website. I do not like to bad mouth any business but here are some facts . Always Understaffed on the skilled nursing side of things, They did have a couple of very good nurses but not nearly enough to handle the case load. Mom had a semi private room this room was too small for one person much less for 2 you absolutely could not walk around her bed and nothing but a curtain to separate the room. The meal plan was a total joke and mom's food always arrived cold. So now for the good. The place is 100% clean and well lit, The Rehab nurses were very good and really seemed to care about their patients. If you are in the process of choosing unless this is your only choice I would certainly pass.

If I could give 10 stars, I would! The staff is excellent, passionate, caring and friendly. They all went out of their way to ensure my mom was comfortable while providing her with constructive physical and occupational therapy. Everyone, from the dining staff to the nursing care were professional and competent. I would definitely recommend this facility.
Readers should understand that these reviews are relative to other Assisted Living Facilities, and require experience to assess relative to all others. Over the past 5 years, 2 elderly parents and pretty much all of the Raleigh local SNF's, and multiple stays in UNC Rex-Apex, this is the top local offering. The facility is clean, the staff is competent, committed and caring, the patients/residents are treated with respect and dignity and their safety, comfort and care is a priority. Support for family and ancillary services is best in the area. The support staff communicates well and helps family understand and negotiate tough choices. Compared to our other experiences (Pruitt, Universal, The Laurels, etc.), UNC Rex-Apex is the best option, without peer.
The facility is clean and extremely well managed. It's not perfect. Not by a long shot. In my father's time there--both as a rehab patient and later as a terminal patient--we had both good and bad experiences. But having been to multiple other facilities, the care here is better and if there's a problem, at least they really try to accommodate and address the issue. Almost all facilities have some staff members who really stand out. The problem is that in this industry, there are always some bad apples/less caring/cutting corners. This facility did a better job than others in ensuring consistent care, even with perpetually limited resources. As a pure rehab facility, the place does have more of a hospital look & feel. The staff is good (meaning trained--by in large they know what they are doing or will know what they are doing if they're new), but they are also dealing with very sick patients, so they're spread very thin (as is the case everywhere), especially on weekends. They are pretty consistent with the activities schedule. Most other places have these great sales pitches and calendars chocked-full of things to do, much of which never happens. So in summary, as a rehab place, it's good. As a final place for someone needing a lot of care it's excellent, when compared to other facilities advertising similar services.
My mom came to Rex of Apex for Rehab services after an acute illness. When it became clear that she would not be able to return home, we arranged for her to stay in long term care there. She enjoyed the activities, her room and the friendly and helpful staff. Mom passed away not too long ago, but I wanted to publicly say how blessed we were to have had Rex of Apex in our lives. The staff...from custodians to doctors to administration are top notch! They always communicated promptly and were responsive to our concerns. The facility is always spotless. Can't say enough good about this place.
