This community has invested a great deal in a beautiful remodel, to continue its long, stable history of excellence. I've worked alongside their staff, in supporting the move-ins of multiple residents over the past few years, and their team always displays a high level of hospitality and thoughtful care. Their team is more unusual in this industry in that they have stayed together and solidified over the past several years while many others change positions and locations every 6 months or year. If you are considering different communities, make sure to visit with Jenna and Michael, for a tour and a detailed picture of what it will be like.

I can only give it comparison to where my mom previously stayed. My mom previously stayed at Sunrise at McLean. It was horrible. Sunrise is the old model for Assisted Living. The Virginian is the new model. My mom started out in assisted living. Her move in day she saw more medical staff than the entire two years she was at Sunrise. So Kudos to the Virginian. I think if the staff is happy that flows to the residents. It became evident that my mom needed to be on memory care. So after a few months she transitioned to memory care. Regina is Director of Memory ...she does well with the little that she has...she has a heart for the residents...the staff get along and respect her...which is a great reflection of her skill set. I live out of state.I come once a month to visit my mom. My oldest brother is there almost every day. Not don't get me wrong there are alot of wonderful people on the weekend/evening shifts. I had issues when my mom first moved to memory care. Some of it is because of the shock and pain I was in because my mom was declining...so to be fair to Regina...I had not a rose colored lense...but to Regina's credit she took what I said and implemented changes. I failed to give her the proper Kudos. For that I am sorry. So Regina, thank you for hearing me and caring for my mom.y mom is safe here AND she is happy. I have noticed that in November the amount of caregivers have been cut and that breaks my heart. For both my mom and for the caregivers. The caregivers already had there hands full, it's not like the number of residents have decreased or have gotten better.Every caregiver I have met has had a heart for the residents. The activity director, Belinda cares deeply...I watched her today as a family member came to visit a resident. Belinda was well aware that this resident hadn't had a visitor for awhile and she became overwhelmed with emotion. Belinda works hard to involve everyone even if they cannot participate but at least they are not sitting by themselves alone. She tries to include everyone. Even the residents who are challenging...and rude ...there is one resident who will not let anyone touch her walker. Even though they will bring it back to her but trying to keep the flow and or to make room so more people can be involved...but the resident would not budge. I stand in awe at her ability to tolerate the disrespect the resident shows her...The nursing staff is awesome. Some are more serious than others. But they all are professional. The meal caregivers are incredible... Patricia, who is from Nigeria, is wonderful. She knows each resident by name, and knows what they can and cannot have...she pays attention to the residents and if they are eating...if they need help...she helps feed them She always encourages them to eat. I do notice that there are cultural differences that can lead to misunderstandings and unfortunately assumptions are the motherloads of all issues. But I have found when you communicate and understand each other cultural differences fall away.I think the memory care team whether weekday or weekend does an outstanding job and I am happy my mom is here and well taken care of and she is safe. What I don't like has nothing to do with care staff nor the director of memory care. If anything I feel for them because they are dealt a low below because they cannot continue the level of care with less help...they have big enough hearts that they will give it there all...but it is sad that higher ups are not providing the support they need. They needed more help not less. The buck should stop with the people up on the top...Regina, the caregivers and the nurses, etc. should not be saddled because of their greed. And that's the bottom line. And the weekend/evening crew always gets dealt the shorter stick because they have to take care of the same amount of people with less help.
My father-in-law currently resides here. The aesthetics and overview of property is great. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. The security measures are very reassuring. Overall the options/activities for residents are wonderful and all the interior and exterior spaces are very well kept.
My experience with The Virginian as a prospective resident has been very positive. My first tour of the facility was during the remodeling. It has been wonderful to see how beautiful the finished product turned out. The open house was an amazing event. Kevin Rios from the marketing department has been my point of contact. He's very helpful and responds quickly to my questions. He's introduced me to residents who seemed to be very happy living at The Virginian.
I first became aware of The Virginian when a friend of mine brought it to my attention when she saw the article in The Washington Post regarding The Virginian, back in November, 2023. I first met with Jenna Ballard in November, 2023 who gave me a tour of The Virginian and pointed out the amenities that were available to the current tenants. I was very impressed with the cleanliness of The Virginian and all of the tenants that we encountered during our tour appeared to be very content and happy with the facility. Jenna took time to speak with many of the residents that addressed her during our tour time. I was very impressed with the renovation that was in process at the time of my first visit in 2023, and completed at the time of my second visit in 2024. It showed me that The Virginian was willing to spend some money to make things better for the tenants. Jenna is a beautiful sales associate that takes pride in being a promoter of The Virginian in that she takes everything potential residents have to say very seriously and answered all of my questions in a way that I totally understood. What impressed me the most about Jenna was that she not only took The Virginian into consideration with her answers, but also took into consideration that the person she was talking to was a potential upcoming resident. I had looked at a place exactly like The Virginian and when the sales associate my son and I met with started introducing me to the current residents of the facility, she introduced me as the next resident in Apartment # 201 – even before I had even seen Apartment # 201. Jenna did not pressure me in any way to make a decision the first day that I was there, and has not since – which I think is fantastic. If I decide to stay living in Virginia, and decide to move in to a place like The Virginian, it will not be a place “like” The Virginian – it will be The Virginian.
