1600 Trousdale Dr, Burlingame, CA 94010, United States
Our mother lived alone and was very reluctant to move into any assisted living facility. Trousdale was the only one that she would even considered, and it was still difficult to convince her that she would be better off there for both physical safety and the social environment. She's always been a social person and we knew that she would thrive in an environment like Trousdale's where both the staff and residents are very friendly. Once we found a room that she liked, she did move in. The staff helped and advised on how to help her be as comfortable as possible with the difficult transition process. After just a few days of living there, her mood was much brighter and she had a bounce to her step we hadn't seen in years. The turnaround was astounding. I've toured a number of assisted living facilities and Trousdale stands out as being well lit and a calm but not sedentary environment.

The Trousdale admittedly appears to be a very clean and modern well-appointed community when you tour it, but be aware you won't get anything more than a tour unless you write them a check for their $5,000 community fee. Like most communities they cannot give you a solid price for your personalized care levels without a physician report and the communities own assessment. The difference is, The Trousdale will not even start or discuss this process with you until you write them a check for the $5,000 community fee (which in itself is higher than most other communities of the same caliber). After that they will complete the review and assessment process and then hopefully give you solid pricing. If you decide their prices are too high for you, or you don't want to go with their facility after they do the assessment they will keep $500 and only refund you the remainder of your 5,000. So essentially they charge you $500 to give you an accurate cost. You can not even get past the sales rep and talk to the executive director Sylvia without writing that check. Their sales people will try to justify this policy by saying they're "non-profit" and lower rates than any other competitors, but if you do your research you'll find that's just not true. Their pricing is in line or higher with similar "non-profit" and even "profitable" communities. I toured several communities in the area, and was able to get accurate pricing and assessments to make an informed decision without any financial commitment. If money is no object then The Trousadale might be the right fit for you. Buyer beware. Don't trust any community that charges to give you a price.
Broken promises. Be very careful if considering the memory care community at The Trousdale. My family was made promises about accepting my 95 year old Aunt with dementia into memory care and my 88 year old uncle into assisted living. Months ago, four family members, on various visits, told the sales person that my Aunt was difficult, being verbally abusive. Our top priority was proper care for her. We were all, told “no problem”. Their two nurses assessed my Aunt and Uncle, The Trousdale invited them to move in, we set move in dates, signed all the contracts, paid the money, then moved my Uncle in first, to be followed by my Aunt a month later. We did everything they asked us to do, every step of the way. But just days before my Aunt was to move in, the Executive Director denied her entry. We were told “we are an advanced memory care facility only”, and that we should have been told that from the beginning. We weren’t, I don’t even know what that’s supposed to mean. Nothing on their website about that. Now my Aunt and Uncle are separated by 11 miles via high traffic routes and my Uncle doesn’t drive. The Trousfale has not taken responsibility for their broken, uncaring, incompetent process. My Aunt and Uncle have no children to help them. It will be very difficult for me and other family members to visit each of them, being so far apart. This was a needless waste of time and money, resulting in a very bad outcome. My Uncle is in no condition to move yet again. Shameful broken promises.

Beautiful property with many amenities. Great benefits, wonderful staff, and overall good atmosphere. I would highly recommend visiting The Trousdale in Burlingame and see for yourself.
