Moving my father to an apartment at The Sequoias in San Francisco was the best decision we've ever made for my father, and for our whole family. Up until November 2023, my 91 year old father had been living independently, but fairly isolated, in an apartment in downtown San Francisco. After a series of heart-health related issues, we eventually convinced my father that it was time to move into a senior community where he would not only be able to get care as and when needed, but would also have a community of people his age around him. We found The Sequoias through an online search only to realize later that everyone we talked to heard wonderful things about the place. From the moment we walked through the doors on our first tour, my father (and I) were treated like we already belonged. Sandor Ceballos, our sales-associate, was so kind, thoughtful, patient, and truly met my dad where he was at in the process as he deliberated on a big move like this. Sandor made sure that my dad had every opportunity to experience the community and helped to guide us through the process to become a resident and make the move. We felt so incredibly supported and understood through it all! Now that my dad is moved, settled, and an official resident at The Sequoias, he could not be happier. I receive daily calls from him telling me about the wonderful food, the great entertainment provided and, above all, the incredibly friendly and welcoming residents and staff. He told me that moving to The Sequoias has given him a quality of life he hasn't had in a long time. And when my family and I have joined my dad for dinners or lunches at The Sequoias, we can see everything he's talking about. From the well-kept, beautifully aesthetic facilities, the opportunities for personal enrichment and entertainment, the outings provided, the care and attention of the staff, the friendly and welcoming residents, the delicious, healthy food, and the wonderful apartment my dad now lives in, we feel so incredibly grateful that we found The Sequoias and how it's embraced my father becoming a part of the community.
My mother-in-law and her sister have been residents for about 3 years and it has been a great experience. The staff is professional and caring. We were especially thankful for the extra precautions and communications with family members during the worst months of the pandemic. The director, Glen Goddard, leads a wonderful staff and we are thankful for his professionalism and expertise.
Staff go out of their way to make sure residents and guests feel welcomed! I have been to three of their locations and all of them have blown me away!!
The Sequoias is a CCRC offering independent living, assisted living, nursing care, and memory care. The Sequoias offers Life Care contracts, in which monthly fees do not increase with the level of care required (though there still are annual adjustments), and residents who outlive their assets may have their fees assumed by a foundation. The Sequoias has two separate guest parking areas accessible from Geary and from Post. Visitors must check in with their vehicle information at the main entrance. Parking does fill up around lunch time, especially on the weekends. The surrounding neighborhood also has free street parking (2 hour), metered parking, and the Japan Center garage is within walking distance. The staff at The Sequoias is very friendly and helpful. They have a busy calendar of events (e.g. concerts and speakers), activities (e.g. clubs and classes), and excursions (e.g. shopping and cultural).
