Unless you’re in a real pinch trying to find your parents assisted living, I’d skip this facility. After almost a year of looking, we were finally able to get my mom and stepdad out of The Sanctuary into a cleaner facility that seems to actually care about the health of their residents. We experienced sloppy med management, the inability of management to communicate amongst themselves, staff, and family and incredible lack of facility cleanliness. The final straw for us was a bedbug infestation that seemed to get worse, not better, over time. We went through a considerable amount of financial resources trying to “do our part” by replacing their furniture, linens and clothing after exterminator visits. After watching the infestation grow, management couldn’t seem to get it under control. My folks were getting bitten all over their bodies causing discomfort and pain. The last month of their stay at The Sanctuary, we would bring an extra change of clothing and shoes to change into before we left after a visit. Staff knew of the infestation and as a result would stay clear of the apartment unless they absolutely had to be there. Their dirty laundry would sit for weeks. Instead of watching my folks take their meds, they just sat them on the counter and left. I could go on… The Sanctuary clearly cares more about their bottom line than the health and safety of their residents. I would not recommend this facility for someone with you love.

Not a great place for Memory care. Untrained Aids not certified. Tried their best but very disappointing. I was being kind when I made this. I can't specify enough how neglected my Father was I'm an aid in Northern MN. I actually know what should be done. They couldn't handle the basics we had to ask them over and over again to do things as simple as giving him a bath. His clothes disappeared and his room smelled like urine. I would mop the floor when I got there. The AIDS they had were not certified which means they didn't know how to do the job properly. The only people that were certified were the RNs and they just passed pills. I'm not sure if they are trying to get by cheaper by not paying certified nurse's aides. A good Certified Nurse's Aid is hard to come by but at least they are trained to take care of the problems that can arise. I have nothing against non-certified AIDS Their place is with people who can speak for themselves assisted Living.
If you are thinking about The Sanctuary at Brooklyn Center, we highly recommend it! Our mom is in a great apartment she loves and has impressive care from daily medication to periodic hearing, vision, etc. check-ups and services. At the request of the Sanctuary when we were looking for a location we came for an onsite visit to see if this was a good location for our mom and a good fit for The Sanctuary – we were impressed at that point and have been more impressed since.
My mom moved in just a month ago, and she is happier than I have seen her in years. The staff is amazing and the activitys they do with and for them, are better than I could have imagind They always say hi to the residents by name. I feel so comfortable leaving my house now or going away for a weekend, knowing she is safe, taken care of and loved. I feel blessed to have her there. Thank you for putting them first and making our family feel at peace.
My grandmother was one of the first residents to move in to their memory care unit when this place opened in April. The first month or two were great. And then it wasn’t. There were SEVERAL times we came to visit to find my grandma neglected. Soaked through her clothes in urine. Sitting in her wheel chair with the wheels locked so she couldn’t move it. Causing her one time to flip the chair backward and hitting her head on the hard floor because she was trying to move. One occasion when my mom went to see her and the staff was sleeping. We ended up getting a hospice nurse for her to help us keep tabs on things. Every time she came to see her she had new bruises that hadn’t been there before. The last time she was sent to the emergency room because “they couldn’t get her under control”. Upon hospital admission the reports stated my grandmother had OVER 60 BRUISES on her body and a order for investigation for abuse on a vulnerable adult was was done by the HOSPITAL. Moral of this review is to help somebody else’s loved one. My grandma has dementia. She declined so quickly from being here. Once she declined to the point she was at when she got sent to the ER they “no longer wanted to deal with her”. This place put a lot of money into making this beautiful place. But unfortunately they didn’t put that into their staff or care for their residents! Please do not put your loved one here.
