After 10 months at the Rivers I am updating my review. We have moved my mother out and my father has died. The single star is to honor the caregivers who are doing the hard work of caring for residents with little support from management. Memory care is understaffed, employees are receiving low wages, turn over and unfilled leadership positions, questionable accounting practices left us no choice but to find a better home for my mom. I would not recommend the rivers Puyallup to families looking for long term care for their loved ones.

The residents are fun and friendly. The staff all work hard to get to really know us and help us have a safe and healthy environment. They show caring every day. We have lots of activities: bingo, sign language, blackjack, puzzles, gardening, Mexican train and more. The other residents feel like family to me. I am happy to be here.
If you are looking to work here or bring your family here, do not do it. The care staff are all crybabies except like 2 of them & the management is super cliquey & always having care staff go against each other or having care-staff be on their side so another manager can be in trouble. It was a super weird experience. They also have a lot of citations and fines and are being watched by the state. A lot of things swept under the rug and management gets to manipulate the “gray area”. The residents aren’t cared for as needed bc of laziness from care staff and management & the food options are horrible. The cook is always making junk and super greasy food & saving food from days before and serving it. For example there was an egg salad made for dinner, the cook saved it for lunch the next day & it was crusted over and stink. The residents are lovely and I feel so bad for them. This place needs to be shut down immediately. You will soon realize that you will need to move to another place. The management is horrible here, do not trust them with your loved one.
The Rivers assisted living and memory facility has been extremely supportive of our family these past 8 months. Both parents moved into Assisted Living. My dad rapidly needed to transition to Connections and then passed. So many things happened so quickly and The Rivers supported us all the way. My 5 star review is based on the fact that I truly enjoy visiting my mom in her new home and seeing the staff interact with her and other residents. Absolutely, every one of them is great! When issues arise, we feel comfortable bringing them up and, with patience, they are resolved or the situation is improved. They are notably improving on communication with families – and we truly appreciate the efforts. Mom has experienced so many little things that make her day. Housekeeping conversations, field trips, care staff routines, etc. All of these are so important to someone who’s lost a life partner. A shout out to Lindsay who is a rock star at making things happen. When we needed to move in quickly, she made sure everything was in order and done correctly. Each day she is a friendly, understanding, and encouraging presence.
The Rivers is a great community the residents are very friendly and welcoming , The staff is amazing they love the residents. The resident enjoy all the activity we offer it’s a great place to bring your love ones to live. I wouldn’t want to be any where else. The Management team work great together. We make sure the residents come first.
