My father-in-law moved in to Assisted Living a couple of weeks ago. It was a very fast and unplanned move for us from him living at home. The Residence has made the transition an unbelievably positive experience. Every member of the staff is friendly, welcoming, and engaging. My father-in-law’s care needs are not only being met, but being provided with an incomparable level of respect and genuine kindness. He loves the food that is prepared by the dining room. He has been encouraged to join a variety of social opportunities daily and is thriving as a result. The common areas are beautiful and impeccably maintained. We could not have asked for a better place or better people to support him!

Chef Eddie did an absolutely amazing job for our Mom's 100th birthday party. The room was perfect the food was all arranged to perfection. Guests raved about the food and Mom said that was the best carrot cake she every had. Thank you so much for all you did for Mom. Please thank all the staff for us. Thank you to Jeremey and Molly for reserving the room and getting the balloons. The day was a great success - THANK YOU SO MUCH!
My wife and I have not yet decided where or when we might sell our house and move into a retirement community, but we were very impressed with The Residence at Glastonbury. The building and facilities are very nice, but lots of places have nice rooms and walls. What really impressed us the most was the friendliness and welcoming of the entire staff. We met more happy, friendly people during our short tour of The Residence than we did in total at half-a-dozen other places. Robin and Jeremy were fantastic, but that can be discounted somewhat because being friendly is part of their job. However, it is not the job of the maintenance manager, the woman in the game room or the head chef and they all took time out of their actual work to talk and interact with us. The Residence at Glastonbury is indeed a very warm and welcoming place and I would encourage everyone to visit there and decide what they want to do.
My mother has been living at The Residence (formerly The Hearth) for about 4 years. On the plus side, there are many nice, helpful staff. In particular, Jess who provides PT and Christine, one of the aids, are wonderful. My mom enjoys the activities, such as bingo and exercise class. Unfortunately, I have serious concerns about the management and the nursing staff. We have had several close calls with my mother’s medications. One incident was about a year ago (just after the management changeover from The Hearth to The Residence). On this occasion, my mother was given an incorrect medication. Luckily, she refused to take this new medication. As it turned out, the medication was for someone else with the same name, but different birthdate. Another time, this past Fall, my mother’s medications ran out and she was not given her morning pills. These medications are essential for her survival. I contacted the pharmacy used by The Residence and had them courier over her meds. She received them midday. I was told by senior management that, as a result of this incident, there have been changes made to the way medications are tracked by the nursing staff. When this happened, no one at The Residence notified me. I found out because my mother called me at 8:30 AM to say they did not have her medications. I was assured by the Director, Adam Baez, that communication would improve. Recently, we received an updated Service Plan from The Residence for my mother and there were a couple errors regarding dosages of medications. I pointed it out to the person who sent the plan and never received a response (it’s been a couple weeks). I also emailed the head of nursing, since I did not get a response, and no response here either. In general, communication with management is poor and has not improved as previously promised by the Director. Since senior management is dropping the ball and not following up with families, they are not setting a good example for the staff who are working hard to provide services. I am not sure if the issue is due to being short staffed or if they are just not professional. I do expect to hear back when I reach out, at least within a couple of days. Given the huge increase in cost under the new management, you might expect a higher level of communication. If you are considering this facility, be aware that you may find yourself spending quite a bit of time trying to get information and be very careful to check the medications your loved one is being given.
I have worked with this building as a vendor for several years now and have always had great experiences. The team is always great and easy to work with, the facility is beautiful and constantly being updated. Residents are always happy and engaging in activities with a fun and robust recreation schedule. Also, their chefs/kitchen make excellent food! I would recommend!
