My mother was a resident for close to 5 years. The staff became family. When she passed there was so much kindness shown to our family. We so appreciate everything they did for us.
My sister was in skilled care and we were so happy with her care there. She was always clean and well taken care of. Also the Briarwood staff worked well with Crossroads Hospice to fulfill her needs and to help us as family with our questions. We will recommend this facility. Thanks to all who made her time there possible.
Problems started the first week there. Would wait 15 minutes to three hours for help with changing. One time her bed was soaked and we asked for help . We were informed that there was no clean linen available. The aids did the best they could but they were always understaffed and over worked. Most of the RN’s were so lazy that all they did was sit behind counter and eat. A few nurses would help out. The place almost always smelled like urine. One day my wife waited for SIX hours even longer. They called the police when I demanded they do their job on me which was fine since they observed what happened nextFinally they got her out of the wheelchair changed her and put her to bed. They left the room and left the urine soaked wheelchair there and left the urine puddle on the floor . The police watched all this I took photos and I was escorted out. Not to many days later she was having real high blood sugar readings. I was there when it was over 500 reading. I told them to call 911. They refused until I made them. She went to Cleveland Clinic Akron on my orders. The social service woman and administrator said 500+ blood sugar was no big deal she is now doing very good in Barberton at a very clean sanitary nursing home where the employees like there job and pitch in to help each other. In 6 months only two very minor issues. So if you care for your loved one stay clear of the briarwood Kendal. And we have the urine photos
My Grandfather unfortunately stayed here for a month. Fortunately we have a loving and caring family so we visited frequently to take care of him. He fell twice within the first 48 hours of moving in. Had no previous falls when he lived on his own prior to moving in. The facility never accepted responsibility for the falls. He was bed bound after that and they made him wear disposable garments. It was sad and depressing to see my grandfather bed bound. The staff does not come when you hit the call button. I had multiple residents come up and tell me that. They moved him to different rooms in his frail condition. They do not care about the residents al all only about the $ they are taking from them. The only helpful staff in the facility was a few kitchen staff members and one of his nurses. He was miserable living there. The best day my grandpa had was when we moved him out of the facility. Do not put your loved ones in this facility they well neglect the care and let them fall and lie on the floor yelling for help.
