My mom lives in the Oaks of Algonquin. Just recently, a new food plan was implemented that requires the residents to pay $400/month for one mandatory meal a day. A MANDATORY meal in independent living. That would be somewhat acceptable if the food met with the dietary restrictions of the residents. Or if the meals made sense. Last night, creamed corn was served as a dessert. Last week, spaghetti and meatballs was served with a side of potatoes and chili as a starter. My mom can’t eat salt or tomatoes. She met with the chef and executive director. Too bad, so sad! She still must pay for food she cannot eat. Fruit? Only melons or applesauce. She has asked that grapes or berries be served on occasion. Not possible, she’s been told. Applesauce is not a fruit! This month, they have no cones for ice cream and have been told they have to wait til next month to get them. They ran out of coffee yesterday. What gives, Spectrum?? You bill yourself as a premier, high quality establishment. You rip off the elderly and ignore their concerns. You treat them like children and refuse to address legitimate issues. It was revealing that when Tom came in from corporate, he yelled at the residents and stood over them with his arms crossed—you know, like a person who cares might do. 🙄 Had I known this information ahead of time, I would have never moved my mom here. The amount of disregard towards vulnerable elderly people is shocking, especially since caring for them is literally your job! Don’t move your loved ones here.

We were looking for an assisted living facility for my grandma to live in while she lived in Del Webb and my mom found this really nice facility right here. My grandma has been living here for about a year now and she really like her apartment there! They are very good at taking care of the people who live here! Very friendly helpers and also very nice neighbors! This is a very nice place to live in and also everything smells like new in the hallway and also the staff were very nice to us. I would highly recommend anyone who needs support and help for their relatives to live here!
What a great experience ! It started as we were greeted when we walked in the door. Brian is very knowledgeable about The Oaks. He took us to the desired apts, allowing us to “ get a feel” for the size and style, layout while also answering all questions , ( trust me there were a lot ). As we were looking at the different floor plans, he was also talking and showing us all of the amenities throughout the community. We ended up at the main restaurant, where he invited us to return and enjoy breakfast ,lunch, or dinner, , further getting a feel for what goes on, and resident interaction. After we completed the tour, we asked for a few minutes to sit and chat, but also observe how some of the other residents interact daily. We were very pleased, with the looks, the tour, and also with Brian’s patient and knowledge, and the “No Pressure” attitude. My mom said she felt good about everything!! We agreed to return the next day with my son so he could see and get a feel for the community where she would be staying. He agreed, it was comfortable and the right place for grandma. After having a little discussion, we all agreed and signed the lease. What a wonderful experience for mom, as well as myself, and even my son. Thanks Brian !
My parents moved into The Oaks in June of 2022. We have been very impressed with the caring and compassionate staff as well as the quality of the food served in their 2 restaurants. Jim and Shelly coordinate many different activities and meaningful events that are especially exceptional and often include family and friends. I often recommend the facility to those looking for a quality retirement community. Our family has been very happy with them!
From start to finish, our experience has been nothing but top notch! The staff is exceptional and very reliable. From the first experience visiting, to make sure it would be a good fit for my mom, to moving it, we never had any question that the Oaks was her place. Special shout out to Brian for his patience and concern for a smooth move in. Can’t say enough 🏆
