My wife and I have lived at The Colonnades for 5-1/2 years. We have been completely satisfied with our experiences here. The greatest pleasure is an extraordinary group of fellow residents who are edducated, accomplished and have led fascinating lives. The are very welcoming, friendly and warm. A large variety of activities are offered, both in-house and out within the larger community. We consider ourselves fortunate to have found our final home here.

I find the staff to be always helpful with issues related to local resources and how to connect with medical resources. The focus on Physical Therapy on site is a tremendous resource in relating with the medical community. Plus the presence of terrific musical programs, trips, and educational programs - especially those related to local history and geography. The knowledge of local shopping and transportation as well as sports is great. The friendliness of residents open many many discussions. On the whole a well related facility to feel at home and valued as a person with who can continue to share valuable relationships. I feel at home ans valued here. I also appreciate the staff response to issues raised by residents. The staff and residents are also flexible in creating new activities such as a group focused on grief.
My husband and I have been living at The Colonnades for almost 5 years. We are very pleased and happy to live here. Our fellow residents are friendly and fun and the team members that take care of all our needs are outstanding. There is a great positive feeling here. There are always a few who like to complain but they are a minority. I highly recommend The Colonnades for anyone who wishes to live a full and happy life in a community like The Colonnades. My parents have lived at The Colonnades for about seven years, since 2017. They moved to The Colonnades from the home they lived in for 45 years. It was a big move, but they settled in quickly and have enjoyed their time there very much. They are now in their 90s. Recently they have both had significant health issues. I am retired so my wife and I have been able to spend a lot of time there the last several months helping look after them, so we got to know the place pretty well. Overall, I have been super impressed…. The staff are very friendly and the community seems very well managed. The residents are treated very well. Everybody says hi and greets you by name when you pass them in the hallway. The folks who work in the dining room remember your favorite beverages and desserts. Etc. etc. I am impressed by how well the staff communicate amongst themselves. When my parents have issues, the staff all seem to know what’s going on with them and be ready to help. For example, my mother recently had bronchitis and had to stay in her apartment for about a week. When I pass staff members in the corridors, they all ask me how she’s doing and if she needs anything. And they are proactive about bringing her meals in her apartment, etc. The facilities are also really nice. I’m a retired builder so I have an eye for detail. The apartment floor plans are well designed. The furnishings and decor in the common areas are very high quality. Everything is very well-maintained and clean. No stains on the carpet, dust on the windowsills, or scuffs on the baseboards. I almost never see litter on the ground inside or outside the buildings. Overall it is a very pleasant place to spend time. A few more things to mention… The grounds are very nice. So for folks who are able to get out and walk, there are nice walking paths on the property. The Colonnades keeps 2 guest apartments on the property for visitors. They are both one-bedroom apartments and are priced very reasonably. This is a big help for me and my wife since we live out of state. When visiting my parents, we stay right on the property - very convenient. The on-site health clinic is staffed with two physicians, and/or nurse practitioners affiliated with UVA Health. My parents have a lot of health issues so they spend a lot of time there. The providers know them both well and provide them with excellent care. The dining room is very pleasant. Dinner in the dining room is a social experience. My parents eat in the dining room four or five nights a week. The food is generally quite good. There are generally 4or 5 items on the menu each evening, plus a soup and salad bar. Not every meal is great, but that would be too much to expect. Bottom line ~ I’m really impressed with the quality and consistency. As a former business owner, I know how hard it is to get the small details right every day. I’ve got to hand it to the folks at The Colonnades. They do a great job. I am really thankful for the seven years my parents have spent here.
My Dad is a resident of nearly three years at the Colonnades in their Assisted Living. He moved there with my mom, who passed the end of last year in their compassionate and caring memory care neighborhood. The great benefit of the Colonnades is that when he needs a "reboot" as he just did or has a medical condition requiring skilled nursing it is there and familiar to us. He needed a reboot this past November / December. The staff in skilled nursing, the therapy he received, and the admissions and administrative process were as close to perfect as we could hope for with him. Today, he moved back to his apartment and it nearly brought me to tears because I have seen him go from a rough place to a completely improved and happy person again. I could say it is because of who he is and is overall attitude, but really it is because of the care he receives there from the Doctor, Nurses, CNA's, Speech Therapist, Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Admissions, and everyone who helps to support these folks. There is no better place in this area and no group more dedicated then the staff of the Colonnades.
