I can’t express enough how grateful I am for the incredible care and warmth my loved one has received at The Barclay in Charlottesville, VA. From the moment I walked through the doors, it felt like more than just a senior living community—it felt like home. The staff here truly treats everyone like family, and it’s clear that they genuinely care about each resident’s well-being and happiness. I can’t say enough about the activities and social events available—Jennifer in Memory Care goes above and beyond for the residents. This is a positive change for The Barclay, the residents are thriving. There’s always something to look forward to, and it’s so comforting to know that my loved one is living in a place where they can stay active, engaged, and fulfilled. From the delicious meals to the wellness programs, everything is designed to enrich the lives of the residents.
I love all the staff at The Barclays they have made my loved one feel welcome and safe. I want to say Thank you to The Director of activities as she hosted a wonderful Mardi Gras. And to Emily S. who has went out of her way to make sure my loved one has been taking care of. I appreciate all of the hard work and endless dedication the entire staff has shown.
The Barclay is filled with enthusiastic staff who want to assist your loved one. Lots of new ideas brewing in the community! Memory Care is flourishing with activities for high-functioning residents with dementia, it's refreshing to see the change that's taken place. Nursing staff is dedicated to the safety and well-being of all residents; management is actively involved and supportive. QSLM has done a fabulous job of turning things around in this community.
We were lied to by The Barclay representatives selling care for memory care patients. We were in a bind to quickly find memory care for our father who was living in ALF and had wandered off on a cold night in his pjs. They told us that he would be "cared for like they care for their own parents". He received very little care and was put in quarantine as soon as I gave them our notice we were leaving which was 5 days after we moved in. I had the director of nursing telling me how horrible the working conditions had been for her in only 5 months she had been there to the point she was leaving to go back to her old job. Too bad she did not share this in the pressure sales meeting we had with her in it. The staff was suppose to be constantly walking the floor of the unit because "you will find we do not have a nursing station here", but I always found them sitting on couches in the activity room. Me and my sister kept my father bathed until hospice took on the job for the last 5 days he was there. They charged us 3K for the community fee and $5,385 for the rest of the March rent/care. His care was so bad I had to hire Brightstart to sit with him 7-7 for 3 days at the end before we moved him. Now they want April's rent at almost 8K and he doesn't even live there any more. I asked the director of business on my way out to leave me and my family in peace and we wouldn't say anything publicly about the experience we had at the Barclay. She didn't seem to want to do that and we were billed 5 days after leaving. I tried to call both QSL and The Barclay multiple times to discuss the bill and why we were not paying it. We feel we have been punished enough for our mistake in believing their lies and signing their contract. We paid almost $900/day for 9 days for really bad care to the point we had to either sit with my Dad or bring in an agency to. I know it sounds from the reply to this review that the Barclay wants to work this out, but I tried to call ed.tbchar directly and my calls were filtered and never returned. Calling the QSL mgmt goes to an automated phone system with only a directory if you know someone's name to look up. Once I wrote my review on 3/25/2025, a bunch of 5 star reviews went up one by the director of nursing at The Barclay. Be very careful when reading these reviews, I doubt very seriously if the positive ones posted most recently are from clients or family members of people living there.
