My mom only lived there a month before she passed away. Here are my thoughts and experiences: The Ackerly at Sherwood is a gorgeous place. It truly is. It has a lot to offer residents… My mom was quite ill when she moved in and was immediately placed on hospice. There are SOME amazing caregivers and medication aides. But- BE WARNED! They use a lot of agency caregivers who don’t know what they’re doing! One had my poor mom in an absolute pretzel trying to transfer her. They treated my mom like a kid, quite honestly. She had Alzheimer’s Disease and was already stripped of her dignity. One day, my daughter and I came over and had the caregivers put her in her favorite chair (which she really enjoyed). The caregiver came to check on her around 4 and said “she needs to go to bed now. It’s 4 and that’s when we always put her to bed.” What on Earth? My mom isn’t a toddler and we don’t think she should be getting put to bed before dinner time!!! Also, can a medication tech leave a pill (narcotic) with me to give to my mom??? I sincerely doubt this is legal as a narcotic is a highly controlled substance. Someone offered this choice to me the weekend before my mom died.and it didn’t seem like that would be following protocol. I expressed all of these concerns to The Ackerly via phone, email and in person. I got no response (despite being told they were “discussing my complaints”). As I said, The Ackerly is beautiful. But, it’s messy where it really matters… Understaffed, lack of communication, VERY disorganized.

I am an employment specialist and have placed individuals at this specific location. Every individual that I have met who work there have been so welcoming and friendly. The residence there are the happiest I have seen in any facility. Tom the kitchen manager goes above and beyond for the staff and residents. Not only would I recommend this location to work at but I would recommend this location to live.
Hands down one of the best assisted living communities I have ever been to and used for my mom. Coming from other places in the area over the last two years to here, this has been the best in every way. I just am amazed of the staff and management here. They are always very helpful and answer each of my questions and fulfil my needs when my mom needs something. What is different here is how the GM and managers interact with the residents and their staff. Just watching when I am there, you can see these people really truly care about us and our parents. I have seen so many other communities, the GM's are always not present and just do not care and are rude, cleary just are there because they like their paychecks. I looked at other local properties, but this one clearly stood out by a landslide and am glad I choose this for my mom! Nice to be able to meet the GM in normal working hours and not wonder why the GM's are never available or ignoring a future resident. My only suggestion is that family members need to remember these people are the professionals and understand things much better then us. When I come in and see these family members be rude, it just irks me. Some respect goes a long way. They have over 100 residents and will get to each of them soon! They always do! Especially meeting people who left bad reviews and reading what they post, and seeing in person what really happened, it is unfortunate. This facility is very organized, well staffed, and they communicate very well and not messy at all. I look forward to a great year here with myself and my mom. The Bistro is always the fun spot! Plus the community is always so much fun and lively even during snow storms!
Well, it’s been six months since Dana reported her review on akerly in Sherwood memory care and I’m sad to say nothing has changed. They don’t have enough people to take care of them properly and somebody said they had good food only in the restaurant, memory care has crappy food. One would think it would be really good food for the amount of money my dad is paying to have my mom in there.
Nothing but the best to say regarding the staff and the facility. All were caring and compassionate regarding our friend who had checked in. I would highly recommend it for anyone looking for a comfortable residence for an elderly loved one.
