My parents selected and are living at Tallgrass and it's a great place. Beautiful campus, friendly and attentive staff, great food, happy people and atmosphere. They enjoy more activities than me!
My parents moved into Tallgrass 5years ago. Since then they have tripled the size and have not expanded their services! Two doctors on staff and the wait time can be over a week to be seen. This is contrary to the information they provide when trying to sell you!!! If you plan on using there health team you are not able to see a Doctor for days or weeks. Critical care does not have enough employees therefore the care is awful. My father was there 6mo. Never had a bath except once. He fell out of bed and was found on the floor hours later. His food was often brought an hour late and they never had the liquid water he was required to drink. I would never move into this place all they care about is expanding and money!!
If I could give a minus 10, I would. Tallgrass and Erickson are two of the biggest mistakes my mother could have asked for when trying to find a home for her after my father had passed. We believed the whole sales pitch that this was a great place. What we experienced was a business that would take advantage of my mother who we found out had Dementia and early stage Alzheimer’s right after my mother refused to move in. We had bought the largest 1 bedroom on the top floor of the new buildings. We had told the staff we wanted to understand if our mother would qualify to live there. They put mom through the evaluation and that’s where the nightmare began. The man who interviewed mom would ask questions and after the session, he expressed some concern to us and mentioned that he wanted to evaluate my mother again when it was closer to moving in. This turned out to be a lie or was stopped by their team. We got possession of the apartment a week before my mom was to move in. I had moved in a few boxes but no one was living there yet. No furniture had been moved in. I kept wondering why they were not calling to evaluate again. We spent over $330,000 for this place. We packed up my mom’s house and movers loaded up trucks. We had the trucks at the doors ready to be unloaded. We brought my mom in the apartment and she refused to move in. Said no way is she moving in. Said she would be lost. She yelled at us. We told the movers to not bring the furniture up and to head back home. My mom would never stay one night in the condominium. None of the Tallgrass staff was there to help us with this move, transition. When I went back to the Tallgrass office and told them mom refuses to move. Their whole staff was just like “oh well, sorry” and truly showed zero care. Even the sales gal who sold us the place told me, “no one has ever done that.” Which was another lie. I found out another family's loved one lasted 30 days right after this. They did not care. They would then hold my mom’s money for months. Started charging us the full monthly utilities and rent when no one had been moved in. They did not care. I finally had to call for a meeting with the CEO and Director of Finance to try to stop this. The assistant Finance resource had no sympathy at all either. We had paid full in cash. No loans. Cash. This was in April 2023. Two months later, my mom was diagnosed with Dementia and Alzheimers. Tallgrass and Erickson still held our money after attempts to get this to stop. I finally met with the CEO and Director of Finance and Asst. CEO. They denied that my mother was to be re-evaluated before moving in after talking with the evaluator. They said they would play good faith with us since we signed a contract and would only hold 2 months of utilities and rent but still not give us back our money until August 2023. For my mom never moving in, they kept around $36,000 (the % in the contract) and about $12,000 in rent and utilities. You don’t expect businesses to take advantage of an 81 year old woman. After even telling them about the Dementia and Alzheimers, they just said they knew all about sundowners and what we were experiencing. They had zero sympathy for my mom and just wanted to keep her money. Would not recommend Tallgrass or Erickson to anyone after this. Just hope this helps others with their decision. Wish that we would have never walked into this place. These business practices are not good. When your mom is this age, you trust that people will do the right thing, Tallgrass failed at that.
My dad was in the hospital for 30 days before moving to Tallgrass Skilled nursing. At Tallgrass he received exceptional care, both his opinion and mine. They were attentive to his needs and knew exactly how to handle his sarcastic sense of humor. The security staff at the gate was very professional, polite, courteous and always made me feel welcome. I felt the same about the the concierge staff. Nursing staff and the rehabilitation staff, physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy were unbelievably skilled and got my dad to cooperate and do what he needed to do to get better. In a short period of time all of the staff was able to relate to him and gain his trust and appreciation. It was amazing that after only 4 or 5 days at Tallgrass we could see remarkable progress. The assistance we received from the social worker made his stay and his transition much easier, very professional. I've never before had to experience this with a family member. It's hard, but, I can't think of anything this facility could have done to make it easier for Dad and the family. Obviously, I would highly recommend this facility.
