My mother has been in and out of different nursing homes since last year, 2024, and I must say that South Hollands Manner has been my least favorite. From the outside, it appears to be a lovely facility, but unfortunately, that's not the reality. This facility has the potential to be wonderful, but it falls short. My mother's room was in need of attention, the floor was caked with dirt and sticky, and the bathroom was not clean at all. Let's work on lifting each other up, rather than tearing each other down, like the staff, who seem to be lacking in kindness and compassion. They often fail to greet visitors and seem dismissive when questioned. I've witnessed them speaking to residents in a manner that's not respectful or empathetic. If your loved one is in this facility, I encourage you to explore other options. This place has the potential to be a safe haven for loved ones, but it's not quite there yet. The staff could benefit from additional training on professionalism and compassion. With a little effort, this facility could be transformed into a warm and welcoming space for all. But as of now today, I wouldn’t put a dog inside of this facility. Someone needs to call the state board on them.

I was admitted to SHM at the end of January 2025 from UI Health. I was skeptical at first, but when I got settled in and my family deep cleaned, sanitized, and decorated my room, along with prayer, it felt like home. The Entire staff made my stay very pleasant and very welcoming. I was treated with respect, dignity, along with great professionalism and tender loving care. The atmosphere was warm and caring. My needs were meet in a timely manner when possible (they have a lot of residents who have greater medical issues that require more time). They also didn't forget to follow up with whatever request I had. The Administrative Team were compliant to my needs and assisted me to the best of their ability. The Social Service Dept was phenomenal. The Nurses and CNAs that service the Medicare section where I was were so outstanding. There wasn't a bad apple in the bunch. The DNP & the ADNP were wonderful and ensured that my stay was comfortable. Housekeeping and Maintenance were wonderful and the Doctors had great bedside manners. My overall personal opinion was that I didn't want to leave because of the Love that I was shown. The Restorative Manager and the three staff personnel that worked with me were awesome. The Dietary Food Dept provided very good customer service. If they had something available to replace what they were serving, they didn't mind exchanging it for me, and they did it with a smile. There are so many people that I personal would like to thank because of their kindness toward me, but I wouldn't want to miss anyone. They all did an exceptional job. From my experience, I would recommend this Nursing Rehab Facility. The South Holland Manor really rocks. *On a sidebar, they can improve on the meals selections...lol *Physical Therapy/Rehab needs improvement. I have suggestions for them which I will not comment on.
It’s unfortunate that the same problems persist. My family has been here for physical therapy and has not received any services for three days. I am extremely dissatisfied with the staff as a whole. When you take your family members somewhere for care, it is disheartening when they don’t receive it. How would you feel if your family were treated the way you are treating someone else's family members? It seems like people just don’t care anymore. I'm going to find out who to report this facility to.
Recently a family member was sent there for a short stint of rehab. Was there for five days with no therapy or rehab and it was only scheduled after we complained. We told staff patient had complained of calling nurses with no response. We were told the call light to thier room wasn't working so if/when sthe nurse was called they wouldn't know it, yet there was no plan to check her more regularly. We were told maintenance had been notified but no estimate on how long before light or call button was repaired. The room hadnt been mopped in ages as the floor was dirty and sticky and the over all facility was unkempt. The only reason Im giving two stars is the Physical Therapy personnel were very attentive but the nurses and CNA seemed more consumed with socializing on the other wing than caring for the patients. if your loved one can go anyplace else - please don't bring them to South Holland Manor.
I would leave no stars if I could. My love one just transferred to this facility yesterday. They did not prepare his room for his arrival. Dirty utensils on his bedside dresser. Used linen in the other dresser. His roommate belongings are in both sides of the closet. The nurse tells me that his roommate family has to come and remove them. That should have already cleared the closet. I’ve waiting to speak with nurse & supervisor for an 1 hr. The supervisor walking around with her dog. This is unacceptable. Will definitely look to move him immediately!
