I work in long term care and when I need to set up discharge for some of my short term rehab to home residents Silver Birch has become one of my go to Assisted Living facilities. They are excellent at coordinating and communicating with the resident and myself. I have toured the facility and find that it is a perfect piece of 'home' for those who benefit from having a private apartment but still need 24/7 nursing supervision. The staff have always been friendly and have engaged with potential residents who are touring. Plenty of activities offered and the building is nicely decorated, there is an on campus 'mini' store in case the residents need something in a pinch.
Silver Birch is a wonderful place to live. The staff is extremely skilled at their jobs. Our medications arrive ON TIME, which are, of course, extremely important. The cleaning staff not only cleans the hallways but cleans our rooms. It is not only pleasant, it is necessary for the large number of residents who live here. And the food! Oh my! The food is extremely delicious! We always have two choices of food but you can always ask for a chef’s salad. Obviously, that is a choice of any three (3) meal. Did I say that the meals are delicious? I was not excited about moving into a place like this; however, it is extremely pleasant. You can be as active as you want or spend your time as private as you want. You can always split your time out and, for example, play Bingo part time and go to your room for privacy. How you spend your time is up to you! I hope I have given you information that helps you make up you mind. I truly love living here!
We just moved into Silverbirch in January of this year. We felt right at home the moment we came in and everyone was so kind and nice to us. They made us feel right at home. The meals are terrific and the service is great. There are many activities to do here and the building itself is very light so that helps you to feel good all over. Especially when the sun is shining. They have a wonderful outdoor area that you can walk around and sit outside visit with your neighbors and just have a good time. The staff has been very helpful whenever we have questions or anything like that. If we have a need and they are alerted to it and Respond quickly. We plan on making the seller home for the remainder of our lives.
My advice is to be actively present with your loved ones living here! My father lived there for years and we thought everything was good until November 2023. He ended up in the hospital with no memory of anything except his own name and birthdate. Family wasn’t notified by the facility, they hadn’t update his emergency contact information in over 2 years. He was alone in the hospital for 5 days before hospital staff contacted family. The facility’s nurses and doctor signed my father off to take his own meds but when his memory loss was evident, nobody assisted him in taking his meds regularly or getting him medical care for memory loss. His apartment along with the building were full of bedbugs! They threw away his bed frame but kept the mattress, put a cover on it and left him sleeping on that mattress on the floor. Staff went to his room on the 3rd to collect the rent and found him unable to get up off said mattress on the floor and in pain. His apartment, cabinets, refrigerator and freezer were packed full of expired, molded food, and copies of the same papers everywhere. In my opinion they did nothing to ASSIST my father while living there. They were only worried about collecting the money, (threatened to sue him for the even though he was still hospitalized), went back on their word several times during our dealings, and tried to cover up the lack of medical care my father received while there. I do not recommend anyone to live there and if they do family members check in them regularly to make sure they are receiving the care they deserve.
