Shalom Gardens has the most incredible rehab services! This talented team brought my Mom back from a very tough hospitalization to her pre-hospital baseline—maybe better. When she arrived at the facility she was only 80 pounds, unable to walk, speak plainly or perform any tasks of daily living. She is leaving 30 days later at 94 pounds, walking, dressing, talking clearly, laughing, playing bingo and planning a night out for pizza! Thank you SG rehab team and care staff for your compassion and amazing care!

During intake, I was told that Medicare would cover my father's stay. Nearing his completion, I called to coordinate his departure, and was told that Medicare only covered the first 20 days. We were paying $200/day subsequently. When I brought this up to Shalom, they said it was our responsibility to know our insurance coverage. Fair enough, but it is their responsibility to give accurate information. They also said someone working there would not tell someone that Medicare covers the stay, insinuating what I said wasn't true. I didn't have proof that someone at Shalom told me Medicare covered the stay.
My experiences with the staff and administration have been overwhelmingly positive. The nurses, nurse aides and rehab staff are committed to what they do, and I am comfortable entrusting the care of my loved one with them.
I would definitely look for another facility if placing an elderly person here. The care was poor. Was told by the aids this was a "no lifting" facility. Why then would a recent amputee be accepted? My father was left sitting for hours in his wheelchair with no one checking on him in his room. He was supposed to be bathed twice a week and was there 2 weeks before his first bath. Was not included in any activities. The patients there mainly just sat in their wheelchairs around the nursing station. Wound care and medication were done at random. No consistency at all. PT and OT depended on who was doing the therapy on a given day. When visiting the facility, Lauren gave a good speech but did not accurately describe the facility. Had a family member with my father most of the days to give him the care the facility did not.
Shalom Gardens was a great host for the OMA art program training practicum. The staff there are clearly dedicated to the well-being of their residents and will have a strong person-directed Art program up soon. Even with the transitions under new management, the staff we interacted with seemed truly committed to the old values and went above and beyond for us.
