I was looking for a place for my dad to receive better care than my wife and I could provide for him. We are in our mid to upper 60's ourselves and he is 88 and has dementia and is a flight risk. I came across Serenity South Enterprise, AL. After speaking with the director there, she informed me that he may need more care than they could provide. She felt he may need to be in a memory care unit. She said they do not have a memory care unit at their facility but said she would get the head nurse Whitney from Serenity South Troy to come and evaluate him. She did so the next day and stated he needed to be in a memory care environment for the best care. So my wife and I agreed to have him reside at Serenity South Troy. My dad wanted so bad to be in a military home and asked over and over for it. However that was too far away from me. I told him when Bennie G. Adkins opens up I will get you there. Well they opened and I applied for his residency and within seven months, they called for him to move in. He tells me it looks like a hotel, a really big hotel. I believe he will like it very much. I am thankful for the staff at Serenity South Troy for taking him in for those seven months and caring for him, feeding him and putting up with him wanting to go for walks so much. He is 89 yrs of age now but that has not in any way slowed him down from taking walks. Their rooms are single and very large and can accommodate a large bed, dresser, tables, recliner and small refrigerator. A large walk in shower and basic sink in a smallish bathroom. Two large sets of closets for all his clothes and more. I would like to shout out to Whitney (Nurse), for staying on my dad's health and medicines. The nursing staff are outstanding there. Everyone there is friendly with kind words and will help you with anything you ask for. My only concern that was handled in a timely manner when brought up was the cleanliness of the bathroom and bed room. I would have liked to have come in and seen the floors and toilet clean when I visited. I do know my dad kept telling them to stay out of his room, and not to clean it. He did that with us too. Its just a part of his dementia, and my wife and I did not give him that option. I told the caretakers not to give him options but tell him this will be done. I think they caved too much to his will. Anyway the place is secured and has really good door alarms should anyone attempt to exit one unescorted. Areas for improvement would be communications from staff to guardian. I would have liked to seen at least quarterly reports. I am sure they had things for them to do, but of course my dad wants to be alone all the time and not socialize. Again, I did not give to his will. He was made to do paintings, dominoes, checkers and puzzles for seniors to keep his mind going. His favorite thing to do was Word Search Puzzle books. He would do them all day if I let him. I want to shout out to Director Allison Cook for her dedication for staff and residents. I know it isn't easy but it takes one with a heart for our aging parents care. Again, Thank you to everyone involved in taking care of my dad and residents there. Keep up the good work!

We had to place our mother in assisted living due to her memory care needs. We moved her on Labor Day of 2023. It was very difficult for us to make that decision, but the nurse there, Whitney Barron, made it so much easier to do so. Whitney and her staff of nurses were the most kind and caring people that we could have ever asked for. There is a nurse there from the morning until evening, seven days a week. It was such a comfort to know that she would be cared for.
As a resident at Serenity South Memory Care section, Troy, Alabama, my mom received excellent care, was always bathed and dressed appropriately, and her room was clean and neat. I was pleased to see mom socializing in the common areas that were decorated with comfortable furniture and seasonal items. Mom enjoyed the meals and the small tables allowed normal conversation and interactions. She became more social at Serenity South than she had been in the past and enjoyed visiting with other residents. The small facility was easy for her to navigate to and from her room, that was clearly labeled with her name and room number, and the staff understood clients with memory issues. The back porch rocking chairs provided a nice view of the fenced yard and allowed for outdoor excursions. While the facility provides basic needs, the staff truly provides personal care and support for the residents. Communication with staff was easy, my family and I always felt we could call or drop by at any time to visit mom and are so glad we made the decision to move mom to Serenity South Troy.
I moved my parents into Serenity South Troy in December of 2023. My dad’s sister had lived there for 7 years and really enjoyed the people and facilities. After a few visits and getting to know the Executive Director, it felt like a good fit where my parents would be cared for. My dad was 92 and my mom is 91. My dad passed earlier this year from long term health issues. My mom loves the facility and more importantly the staff! The management team there is first rate and genuinely care for the patients. It’s been the perfect set up for us. I would highly recommend this organization for an assisted living solution for your loved ones!
My mom was in Serenity South for almost a year before her passing. The staff was always friendly and helpful. They showed sincere concern, respect and affection to her throughout her time there. Everyone from the Director and Nursing Supervisor through care staff and janitorial/maintenance staff were fantastic. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone needing care for their loved one.
