Schaffer Extended Care Center is a poorly kept nursing home with staff who neglects your family. Their understaffed and due to lack of staffing there are patients who aren't attended to for hours. My mother who was a patient here woke up one morning around 4am and needed to use the restroom, she wasn't tended to until 6am. My mother also got a heel fracture in their center due center obsessive force of trying to make walk. not only did she get a fracture in their care she also suffered from a heart attack in their care. The nursing home discharged her without warning to the family emptied out her room and stole some of her belongings and threw away some stuff. The staff lack etiquette and aren't friendly to the residents. I have witnessed many residents crying for help and using the call bell and no help is provided for long periods of time. I have attached photos of what the main front desk looks like on the 3rd floor which is rehab. The front desk should always have someone at the call phone but due to low staff there's never anyone there. Most of the staff all take lunch together and neglect the patients. There is a complaint in the rehab but they never correct their issues. DON'T BRING YOUR FAMILY HERE, EVA THOMAS IS A POOR SORRY EXCUSE FOR A NURSING DIRECTOR. THEY ALL STICK UP FOR THEMSELVES AND WILL COVER UP THEIR FLAWS WHEN THEIR WRONG. Peter the social worker doesn't vouch or do anything for your family he just sits there. the physical therapy equipment and bedding is outdated and old.

My dad was admitted here on January 12th and the care he received was absolutely wonderful from the security guards who always greeted you with a smile or to Lupe who was exceptional too Lindsay who made sure the discharge for my dad was set up. To the therapeutic department for being exceptional...to the physical therapist and occupational therapist. To every single nurse, doctor ,aides to the CNA on the third floor their are no words other then thank you for everything you did for my dad and the care he received round the clock kudos to everyone.
I am a patient here. They are VERY understaffed. I have been told that most nursing homes are like that. I can't speak for other nursing homes because I haven't had the experience. Greenwich Woods in CT. was better. The food is terrible, but it's institutional food. What do you expect. Often they give you the same stuff with different names. Pasta, Gemelli pasta, pasta with garlicsauce are all the same. Dietary often gets the diet wrong. I am allergic to chocolate, etc. they give me chocolate chip cookies. (Menu was reviewed and signed by a supervisor.) The kitchen staff either can't read, don't read or don't care. On the positive side, the therapy teams (OT, PT) are very good and helpful. Always encouraging. Most of the staff try hard to make a bad situation better. Some, not so much. I don't know if I would recommend this place to anyone.
I read all these negative comments but in my experience Schaffer is a good place... they treat my brother and sister in law very well and although they are under staffed like many other places they do a very commendable job..... Thank you men and women on the fourth and fifth floor
Certain nurses on the 3rd floor are rude and obnoxious. According to my family member that is currently there, when help is requested they take their sweet time to answer the call. This place is dark and depressing. I would NOT recommend this facility to a loved one. We are looking to transfer our loved one out of there ASAP.
