My uncle is currently in this facility. To say I am displeased is an understatement. He has only been here two solid days. On both days he has not been properly cleaned and the staff only seems to do anything when a family member is present. Now I understand that this field can be very tiresome. Often the caregivers are overworked and underpaid and more than likely understaffed or restricted in staffing due to a budget. So I give them two stars for coming to work. However, there is no five star treatment if I have to come and tell you that your patient needs to be changed. The assessment nurse told me that they had already changed my uncle twice today and that they had noticed his excrement was watery. If that is what they observed then why are you not monitoring it? Why are you not making sure your patient is kept clean and dry? I understand that one person may have 10 or more patients to care for in their scheduled shift and you want to be able to leave when your shift is over. However, these things do not come at the expense of the patients dignity. Caregivers should place themselves in the mindset of caring for these people as though they were their own family members. If you are here for a paycheck only, then the least thing you could do is pretend like you like your job and take care of the people who need you. When I came to see my uncle today his underwear were soaked with his bodily waste. That is totally unacceptable for only being here for two days. When I arrived at the facility walking through halls a and b the smell of human waste in in the air. That is a sign of patients not being regularly changed. Healthcare is not about care anymore. It is about money. It is very sad. For those who are seeking a place for rehab for their family members, my best advice is to see what you can do for them first. You cannot guarantee what quality of care will be given in any facility.

I just spent three weeks at Scepter/ Parkwood. I had a very good experience. The nurses and CNA‘s are exceptional. If I have a need, they took care of it. They are like your friends. They’re very caring and very concerned about the patient. I had therapy while I was there and the occupational therapist and physical therapist were very good. They took the time they needed to be with you, you never felt rushed. The food was OK. Some days were really good other days were just OK. If I had to say if I would tell someone else to go there I would. I was lucky I only need the stay for three weeks. But they have other people who were there a lot longer. I feel like this is a very good facility and I recommend it to anyone.
I have a parent at this place and would rate it no stars for hundreds of reasons if that was a choice. Lets start with the place stinks of urine all the time because no one cleans anymore. Patients food is never served at the correct temperatures cold food is warm and hot food is cold. The office staff is always rude to family members and never returns calls in a timely manner in fact the staff is so rude we think it is a job requirement to work there. Whoever is now in charge of this place will not return calls and will never meet with family to discus issues as he or she is always out of the office or in a meeting. Medication is not done on time and drug interactions are not caught before patients are harmed. There is not enough patient care staff to meet the minimum patient requirements let alone assist with feeding patients Time and time again I have seen patients assisting other patients when needed assistance was not forthcoming from staff. Patients are provided showers once a week even if needed before then. The pretty pictures of furnishings you see are not of the nursing home but are of the assisted living areas of the facility the furniture in the nursing home area is worn stained and in need of cleaning. I could go on and on but I am sure there is a limit on how long this post can be. Never ever put a family member here.
EDIT: The management of this facility tried to report us for ELDER ABUSE to the Department of Human Services. WE were investigated because we would not leave her in such a horrible place. These people made up lies and false information, claiming my grandmother was unsafe in our care, to try and have us shut down before we could report them to the Department of Aging. Luckily, the person who was handling our case and the person who was handling theirs was the same person who had already had 4 complaints IN THE SAME WEEK about this place. I’m only give this 1 star because I have to. Do not send your loved ones to this facility. My grandmother was sent here for rehab for a broken hip. We arrived a little after 8:30pm. They let us in on the long term care side of the building, and when I stepped in the door I could not believe the smell. It smelled like bed pans and bed pads had not been changed in WEEKS. I can’t even imagine how long those poor people had been sitting in their own urine. That is not a smell that happens after a few hours. It was almost 9:30pm before anyone came to greet us or let us know the process. When someone did arrive, they were not friendly and were not happy that we were there. She was given a semi-private room, and her roommate was begging for her medication. It even got to the point where she pulled herself into her wheelchair and rolled herself into the hallway to try and get someone’s attention. It was almost 3 hours overdue. Then we were told there was only 1 nurse for every 20 patients. Whenever we would walk into the hallway, all the CNAs were behind the nurses station taking or on their phones. It was perfectly clear no one was going to help my grandmother if she needed it. We told them we needed a transport and she was not staying. They argued with us that we could not take her and there wasn’t a supervisor on site for us to talk to. For this place to be 24 hour care, THERE SHOULD ALWAYS BE A SUPERVISOR. We called a transport service ourselves, and had her out before midnight. It was very clear to me the motivation for this place is to move people from the short-term care to the long-term care to keep getting their money. I knew that if my grandmother stayed there, she would probably die there. The staff does not care about making sure your loved ones are well taken care of. Do not subject them to the trauma of this center. For $200+ a day for this facility, it should be cleaner, better staffed, and and more caring for the people staying there.
This place actually deserves 0 stars. This is my first of many reviews. My grandfather was in this home for about two years and recently passed away last week. The size of his bedsore was unacceptable and I'm convinced that is what killed him. DO NOT leave your loved ones in their care if you can avoid it. The rehab center isn't bad but the long term/nursing home is a sh*t hole. It smells horrible in there and the care given is minimal.
