My wife was transferred directly from Pottstown Hospital to Sanatoga Center. I looked at the Medicare rating and Google ratings. How misleading. This place was an absolute horror. Sure there were a few of the staff that were caring but extremely overworked. The staff told us there were 30 patients to 1 caretaker. It showed The food was inedible. Always cold and disgusting.. I had to bring in all her meals from the outside. The staff is fully aware of the problems, especially the dietician but she said there's not much she can do as they can't find any decent staff willing to work there.. The physical therapy staff were excellent .. many of the day shift staff were caring just overwhelmed.. The night shift staff were terrible. It took up to an hour to answer a call for help and he when they did come they were talking on there personal cell phones throughout the response.. they would grunt at you and if you complained they would completely ignore you from the on.. A roommate lost control of her bowels and made a complete mess of the bathroom.. ok.. this happens but when my wife reported the issue it was ignored. It was left that way for hours.. the whole room stunk..Another time, a new roommate requested assistance getting to the bathroom.. the night shift told her to "do it in her diaper". She was totally capable of using the restroom but just needed assistance getting there.. she was left in a dirty diaper for over 2 hours.. both issues occurred during the night shift/early morning. I can go on and on with other examples of abusive behavior If your loved one is unable to care for themselves and you can not be there to help your loved one with meals and assistance using the restroom, your loved one will be neglected in one form or another. Especially by the night shift.

My aunt was in this facility and it started off fine but then quickly turned into the worst experience! They are not there to help. They are there to move patients in and out and collect a pay day! I went to visit and my aunt was sitting in the bathroom half naked and when I asked her what she was doing she said "they put me in here and I don't know what i am supposed to be doing". When I asked the nurse she said that my aunt asked to wash up so she put her in the bathroom. The next day I inquired about her care and they said she is mostly self sufficient. When we (the family) asked about long term care they said because she can answer for herself they are sending her home. There is no one at home to care for her!! She can't even dress herself. This place is just terrible. Now she is home and we have to try to navigate the system to get her help! The social services department in that place is absolutely useless! No one will even pay attention to what is really going on in that place! Do not put a loved one there! The PT signed her off as capable to do everything including cook and clean. She can't even put a pair of pants on!!!! How on earth can she live in a 2 story house and take care of herself!
My dad came to the center this week. Luckily he is very cognitive and was a nurse in the army, because the nursing/aide care is very poor. If it was not for the ot/pt staff, I would probably try to move him. These staff members are outstanding, however the nurse drag the ratings down. I enter the building for the first time and was greeted by a wonderful person. When I came upstairs 4 nurses were sitting at the station while lights were on in the hallway, just talking. This is a situation my dad has discussed continuously. He actually pushed to be allowed to go to his bathroom on his own, because twice he had to wait over two hours to get help. He has also had to wait numerous times for other issues. Being that he was a nurse for twenty years, he stated what is very disappointing, is there is no connection to the patients. They just deliver food or medicine. As a nurse, he feels the connection is hugely important for the recovery of a patient. My dad has stated the food good and clean. Overall there are positives but they are outweighed by the nurses and aides.
I visited my mother-in-law there, and.place was very nice. The main criticism I have is that the hallways are very crowded with carts, wheelchairs, trash cans and other wheeled things. It feels very cramped. The rooms are small with double occupancy so I get it, but it feels like a sad place, my guess is that the residents don't notice, a few slouched in wheelchairs throughout, but better then laying in a.bed all day. it sucks to get old. Play some low volume music in the hallways and lobby perhaps? Bring up the vibe somewhat maybe? Yes, this will make the families feel better about visiting maybe? The few employees I encountered where nice but only when I engaged with them first. I didn't even get a look from the person at the lobby desk, yes, she was having a conversation with someone, but a hello or a welcome would have been nice. The computer that takes your picture was the only welcoming thing once I realized this what I needed to do to continue my visit. Please take the second to acknowledge the visitors, your job is hard and we know it, we get it, and appreciate you, but it is just as much terrible for the families of these cherished seniors. I hope my mother-in-law benefits from the therapy offered there, but this remains a mystery. There is some contact with my wife, but I guess if you put your family member there, you should initiate the call. Again, thank you staff for doing best!
So pleased with the attention of the staff at this rehabilitation center. My husband has severe needs caused by the lack of care at a different rehab facility. After two weeks in the hospital, surgery, an infection caused by negligence and unbelievable worry it is great to have responsive health care professionals and staff attend to his needs.
