San Jose Gardens is truly a safe place for those with memory care issues. They have excellent upper management in place with many years of experience. Both Gwen and Kathleen keep a sharp eye on any needs that come up with their residents. They are quick to respond to solve any issue, therefore, keeping the residents healthy and happy. You can feel confident placing your loved one in their care.

My mother spent some months here. The facility is very good for those with severe memory issues, not early stages in my opinion. The reason I gave 2 stars is because after paying 10’s of thousands over the months my mother stayed there, they have a policy that requires 30 day written notice to move your loved one. My mother moved out on march 31st which mind you, the cost per month is $7400 a month. They were told she was leaving on the 11th of March, but notified to the director on March 18th. However, they still expect a prorated amount paid to them into the month of April. Nearly $4,700 more dollars. It’s extremely greedy and this policy should not be allowed. Greed is gross. No willingness to work with you on the final amount just “that’s the policy”. Disgusting.
San Jose Gardens has the professional administrative staff and dedicated employees who did their best to take care of our mother. The building exhibits a modern, clean and well maintained appearance throughout, not just the lobby. It is much newer than most places we have visited and the mainteance staff corrects problems in short order. All the rooms are clean and well decorated for the occasions. There are plenty of programs in which the residents may participate every week– musical performances and art classes. We are grateful our mother spent her final years there under their care.
If I could give it zero stars if I would. They literally starved my father for seven weeks. His nights and days were mixed up and they had no food at night for him. They said they had peanut butter and jelly at night but when I went to ask for a sandwich they did not have bread. I had to go to the grocery store. They are frequently understaffed and they are on their phones instead of taking care of the residents. The red shirt pic is the day before he moved, pics in bed is him starving and weak, him sitting in chair is after he was being fed to some degree. His room was always filthy with blood all over. The last straw was him in pain from three back to back falls and no one addressing it. The last pic is him in Aug 2023 and June 2024. These places sell you and do not deliver. He is no longer in the facility. He lost a good 40 pounds in 7 weeks and I had to buy him new clothes. They told me he was declining and not eating. I believed them until I saw he was hungry. The last photo is him eating at the new place feeding himself. He was having a hard time holding his utensils and I was told they would start giving him finger foods such as chicken nuggets and sandwiches. He is doing fine at the new place as they are helping him. His Hospice nurse said she was bringing him food from home and feeding him. There are numerous other issues. I just wanted my father fed and cared for and that did not happen at San Jose Gardens. He also had frequent UTIs because they did not change his catheter bag. Every time I visited I had to ask for it to be emptied.
I highly recommend San Jose Gardens for your loved one. We moved my father there in April.. From the moment we walked in, we were impressed by the warm, welcoming atmosphere and the professionalism of the staff. The caregivers are attentive and genuinely care about the well-being of the residents. My father has adjusted well and is enjoying the various activities and social opportunities they offer, one of the nurses even plays chess (dad's favorite activity) with him :). The facility is clean, well-maintained, and the staff is easy to contact and responsive to our questions. We feel at ease knowing that my father is in a safe and nurturing environment.
