Second year Review. 1.)Cafeteria and dietary has improved, food is hot and fresh, better seasoning of protein is needed. 2.) Housekeeping and Maintenance continues to do a good job, most things get fix and cleaned, no Housekeeping after 11pm which could be challenging. 3.)Laundry Department. getting your clothes clean is pretty good, getting towels did improve. 4.)Activities Department did improved a little, meal change got better. If your Dad or Mom likes the Bears, Bulls, ESPN, Hawks, FOX, the Superbowl or any sports stuff you might be disappointed! They have nail painting and kiddy gardening coloring. Watching the same movie 10 times in a row is not Activities. 5.) Dialysis did improve some, still some issues with transport pickup. 6.) Nursing and CNAs, most are professional, most CNAs do the hardest work in a Nursing home, they do still have a few unfriendly Nurses and CNAs with blue language who think old sick people are second class citizens we are not! A few Nurses don't supervise the floor very well. Smokers are allowed to get out of control. They disrespect a nice building patio with trash and cigarettes butts. 7.)Social Workers, not sure if they are the advocate for residents? if you don't agree with some staff you are falsely labled aggressive for speaking! If you see something unsafe please say something. 8.)Location, South Holland is quite and safe good neighborhood... many wise residents and staff at Prairie Oasis. my review is higher this time because most of the staff did improvement! My brother was in this joint for 5 months & he was only in here to get rehab from a seizure to strengthen his mobility. Anywho, I couldn't tell that he was even in rehab because he was still the same. Some of the horns cna's were more concerned with flirting with my other brother that came in with me then seeing to my brother 😡 my hospice brother had such a terrible pissed up mattress that was finally changed after I fussed so much, my brother was on a liquid diet & needed feeding & his food was just left on the table & no one would give him liquids & his mouth was so dry that his tongue was white. He stayed wet ALL the time & basically put in a corner bed & ignored. The bathroom was ant infected & I saw why because someone had been eating I'm the bathroom because a cheetos bag was left in my brother's bathroom so I came in with a alcohol bottle & sprayed every time I visited. Kirk is cool the few times I met him ☺ the nurses & cna's are in the wrong field. I've never seen so much non chalot attitudes under one roof. They're too busy gossiping @ the nurses station then nursing their patients 😡 they will all reap what they sow & I use to be a cna in the 80's & I had 15 patients that I cared for like family cause I am emphatically inclined to people. Prairie Oasis doesn't have a clue. Oh They're all busy on the day shift because the directors & supervisors are there but the afternoon shift are lazy and ignoring their patients because gossiping at the station is more important. If you love your love ones DO NOT put them in this place 1 star is too much 😡
The staff is generally attentive to the residents and are willing to work with family and caregivers to provide some quality of life.
This place was really nice at first, but when I brought my dad there after a period of time, my dad begin to turn sick. After his passing he still had money left up there for him, they would not and still have not given us( the family) that money. Why, because they wanted to know the funeral cost and how much his life insurance was, which I think is none of there concern . Why, because they did not pay for any life Insurance for him . So this has been almost a year ,never received the money that he has up there. The person I spoke with was Judy and my father was Mr. E.Hopson. I advise you to not put your parents in this place.
My mother spent 13 days of respite care at Prairie Oasis (July 6th-18th, 2022). She had a wonderful experience. The staff treated her really well and she felt very comfortable there. She would like to go back next time for her respite care. I want to say thanks to the staff at Prairie Oasis!
