0*s 1st thing I would say is IF YOU REALLY CARE FOR YOUR LOVED ONE I DO NOT RECOMMEND!!! they are short staffed your family member WILL NOT BE PROPERLY TAKEN CARE OF . Imagine your loved one BEGGING for help and nobody ever coming that's the treatment they will get. If your love one is a fall risk I DO NOT RECOMMEND !SERIOUSLY!! IF YOUR LOVED ONE CAN NOT FEED THEMSELVES DO NOT PUT THEM HERE THEY WILL BECOME MALNUTRITION AND LOSE WEIGHT(KNOWFROM1HANDEXPERIENCE). The nurses here are barely qualified they do not care for your loved one If anything happens such as death under the OTTERBEIN care you WILL NOT GET A STRAIGHT FORWARD ANSWER THE FACILITY LOOKS NICE BUT AS THEY SAY LOOKS CAN BE RECIEVING! THIS WAS WROTE 5/2025 IF YOU ARE LOOKING THROUGH THE REVIEWS this place needs investigated on all levels. I would recommend u being there the most u can with your loved one especially at night or get a nannycam or ring on them for all times ..There is more then one and will be more then one person passing away at this place only you can prevent it from being yours I hope this helped in making your decision. I have lived here now for one full year and I just love it. I have friends and activities, and the staff are all wonderful, kind and patient. Last summer the maintenance staff built two garden boxes for me, and my wife and I enjoyed tomatoes and cucumbers well into the Fall. I also have quite a hosta garden off my patio, and I planted a wide assortment of annuals and perennials in the front of the villa. When you become part of the Otterbein community, you don't have to give up anything, except the constant work and worry of owning and maintaining a home. I now have time to pursue my hobbies, plus I get to watch someone else shovel my snow for me! Our dog, Kiki, loves it even more than we do, as there's a huge campus for her to explore.
I’d give this place 0 stars if I could. The care or I should say lack of care my Dad received was unbelievable. I’d show up at 7 pm, sleep in the chair next to his bed, in case he needed something, and no one, NOT ONE PERSON would come to his room all night. Nurses button didn’t work, they gave him a bell but that was useless because no one ever came close enough to his room to hear it. Dirty kitchen area, drink machines had nats all over. I walked down to the common area at 1am and the staff were all down there sleeping on couches and chairs. No matter how many times I complained, nothing was ever done. He needed assistance going to the bathroom, they would tell him to just poop or pee in his pants and they would change him when they had time. We had to leave food and drinks because he was told he could only have a drink at breakfast, lunch or dinner. I drove 2.5 hours as often as I could to stay with him because I didn’t trust their care!! Therapy dept was the only good thing about this place!!!
Update March 22, 2024: It took 5 months for someone to respond to a review online which is almost word for word the same as other negative reviews. The administration has my contact information and knows exactly how to get ahold of me. Note they make no mention of my original review. Original: My father was here for almost 3 years. In this time there were several issues with response time and staffing. They also put in surprise billing which once I raised an issue was quietly and quickly resolved. When he passed I received no follow-up call from anyone other than when we were going to remove his personal items, which they moved into a room without my consent. Some items were lost during this move; luckily nothing of significant sentimental or monetary value. I do not recommend Otterbein Pemberville as a place for assisted or long-term nursing.
We are so grateful for the team of caregivers at Otterbein. The staff finds creative ways to keep residents engaged in community. Our concerns are addressed in a timely manner. The staff has helped us understand the changes that can come with aging. Thank you!💝
