My sister and I got to hug our Dad for the first time since March, 2020. Every interaction I have had the pleasure of with all staff has been incredibly positive. He is very well cared for and respected. He is Happy! We are thrilled to be so fortunate to have a safe, pleasant and clean place for him to get the care he needs@92 with a diagnosis of vascular dementia.
We thoroughly investigated all options prior to applying to the NH Veterans Home for our 90 y.o. Dad. In that investigation, we looked hard to find anything at all that would cause us worry about the home and the care our Dad would be getting. We read every newspaper article we could find, every report we could get our hands on.... when we had unanswered questions and were concerned about the introduction routines the staff had in place we engaged in looooong conversations with the heads of staff at the unit where our father was going to be placed. We decided that all information pointed in the direction of a trustworthy and caring facility. With our heart in our throat, we made the move in the spring of 2018. Our father received absolutely outstanding care. I visited the facility every day for 2 weeks about 2 weeks after intake. I was so touched by so many details and not least of all, by the many, and varied activities my father was able to take part in. When we voiced a concern (and we had a few - like was the bed really comfortable for him - they made adjustments to suit his needs), we felt the staff listened and took heed. My brother visited thereafter about once a week... and I called once a day - so we had close contact with the facility over a longer period of time. We were impressed by the staff's conscientious manner, hygiene routines, cleanliness, safety routines, the quality of the food, the frequency and quality of daily activities, the beautiful garden atrium, the little trips on the grounds, possibility to fish in the pond, go to church services, the physical size of the unit, etc. etc. Our father got physical therapy on a regular basis, quick and impressive medical attention from on-site doctor and was sent to Dartmouth-Hitchock once when needed. Dad was transferred from an up-scale new assisted living facility in NH yet received much better care and was much more active at the NHVH. Elder care is incredibly challenging but the NH Veterans Home has highly qualified management and caring staff members and clearly has a budget that allows for meaningful, engaging, daily activities and enough staff to ensure participation. We just cannot express our gratitude and appreciation enough. Those of you wondering if this will be the right choice, can rest at ease - your family member will be in the best hands possible.
We can not say enough about the staff at the NH Veterans Home. They are absolutely wonderful. Our father was a resident there for 7 months until his passing. He was treated with dignity, respect, and was well cared for. During the dying process the nursing staff sat with him, keeping us informed, when we could not be there. A big thank you to all of you working at the Soldiers Home. You treat our Veterans well.
My father spent the last 2 years of his life at the NH Veterans Home in Tilton. The physical premises are clean and cheerful, but the best part of this facility is the staff. From the receptionist to the RN's, LPN's and staff at all levels, everyone is caring, professional and upbeat. My father was always treated with respect and kindness. Thank you All.
