My 87 year-old mom has lived at Merrill Gardens at Tukwila (formerly Holden Southcenter) for 18 months, and it truly is a wonderful place. This review might sound a bit over-the-top with praise, but my platitudes are genuine. As you can see from the photos, the facility itself is gorgeous -- like a luxury hotel (that's actually how I describe it to friends). My mom's apartment is absolutely perfect for her: spacious, light-filled, modern, and functional. Nothing about it says "assisted living." My mom is quite independent and only utilizes the medication management service, which is very reasonably priced, but if she ever needs additional assistive care, we know it's available from well-trained and caring staff members. Speaking of the staff, the folks who work at Merrill Gardens Tukwila treat the residents like family, and that's not an exaggeration. They are absolute angels. I should also mention that there's a clear effort by management to make MGT an inclusive and welcoming community to all, and the makeup of the residents reflects that fact -- there are people of all backgrounds and life experiences. My mom loves the diversity, including within the staff. Various holidays and traditions from around the world are celebrated throughout the year with special meals and events, along with other fun activities for residents. My mom has gone on a number of fun day trips organized by the staff to places like Mt. Rainier, the Burke Museum, the Tulip Festival, and a Cinco de Mayo celebration. She also makes use of the transportation provided by MGT to get to medical appointments and go on shopping trips to stores like Fred Meyer and Target. It's impossible to meet everyone's culinary desires in senior living facility, but the food at MGT is very good, and there's a wide variety of options available daily. Personally, I always look forward to dining there as a guest, and I especially love the soups (and the french fries). I enjoy hearing about the daily specials from my mom--such things are important when your life revolves around the dining room! Last thing: as best I can tell, the transition to Merrill Gardens has been seamless, which is a relief. Shane, the executive director, remains in place, along with other key staff members, and the services and amenities are the same or improved.

I moved to Merrill Gardens last year after visiting several other senior living facilities and am happy with my choice. The new building was a big selling point for me, its well maintained and always clean. Excellent staff are always friendly and available for anything I need making living at Merrill Gardens home. I'm definitely not a foodie, but I have never had complaints about the dining options. There is always something for every appetite, if you love Indian food, Italian, Chinese, fried chicken or just meat loaf im confident there's a menu option you'll like.
I moved into Merrill Gardens Tukwila over a year ago. My son and I toured many different communities, but we were especially impressed with this one formerly known as Holden Southcenter. So many of the places we visited felt dark and enclosed but here it was bright full of windows and has an uplifting atmosphere. One of the things I really appreciate is the safety of walking outside and the convenience of being near the mall. The food here is exceptional and the dining room is open from 7 am to 7 pm, giving us the flexibility to dine whenever we like. With a full three-page menu to choose from there is always something delicious. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, and I am particularly impressed by the small touches like the linens on the tables and fresh flower arrangements each week that make dining here feel special and inviting. We also have onsite physical and occupational therapy available, which adds to the overall convenience and support provided here.
My parents moved to Merrill Gardens Tukwila back in February for assisted living. Both are dealing with health and/or memory issues and it was time to move to a safer environment, but one that still afforded them the lifestyle they enjoy but had the care needed when/if their health issues progressed. It was really hard for them to leave their home of 25 years, but after touring the community and a week or two adjusting to their new environment - they were sold! They are so happy in their new home at Merrill Gardens Tukwila! Shane, the general manager, is absolutely amazing! He is kind hearted, patient and understanding. My parents both adore him. In fact, they love all the staff - front desk, sales, events director, nurses, servers, cooks, housekeeping, etc - everyone is great, kind and helpful. My parents love the food in the dining room and also enjoy the option to cook their own breakfast because the kitchen in their apartment has a stove. Another perk, the outdoor patio has beautiful views of Mt Rainier and the Green River with lots of seating and garden boxes. My parents walk the Green River trail daily as it is only steps outside the front door of the community. Other items: My dad gets his hair cut and my mom her nails done at the salon within the lobby downstairs. Live music once a week during dinner. Activities - games, gatherings, etc. Great apartment - full kitchen, good views to green river, large bathrooms, nice modern design with large windows Beautiful lobby and dining room - modern and feels like a hotel. Ability to tailor nursing needs for each parent - medication assistance, extra checks, etc. Thanks all - it has been a great new chapter for my parents!
Treated my father with great care and compassion. They were always there for him when he needed them. The facility is beautiful!
