My friend, a Christian man who loved the Lord with all his heart, full of charisma and humor that brightened any room, was admitted to Marwood Nursing and Rehab (1300 Beard St., Port Huron, MI) in mid-to-late April 2025 to gain strength. I am outraged by the utterly deplorable, cruel, and unprofessional treatment he endured. Battling painful cancer, he deserved dignity, not blame, yet Marwood staff, influenced by oncology nurse practitioner Candise Love’s notes or comments unfairly blaming him, viciously turned against him. Staff berated him, one with a vicious attack on his past until I intervened. Key staff, including Amy, Diane, Jennifer, and Terry, talked down to and about him as well as broke promises. A director dismissed his wound’s treatment concerns until I threatened Ombudsman action, but care remained deficient despite a specialist. After transfer from the hospital to Marwood, his pain reliever was delayed over 12 hours despite his severe pain, causing agony. Physical therapy, vital for discharge, was severely inadequate. One occasion he wanted to go to the ER and was discouraged saying his insurance wouldn’t pay for it because it was against medical advice. Some Marwood nurses were kind, but key staff’s heartless disregard was sickening. No patient or family, especially a mother watching such despicable treatment of her son, should suffer this anguish. Anyone from Marwood or Candise Love refuting this by blaming my friend has reached a new level of reprehensible medical unprofessionalism. His choices are his right—do not justify this; no one deserves it. Fearing they were letting him die without hope, dignity, or respect, he was transferred to another location on May 2, 2025, for a second opinion secretly to prevent naysayers from Marwood or Candise Love badmouthing him to the new place, where he passed away on May 4, 2025, surrounded by loved ones and compassionate staff. Marwood must train staff in compassion. Do not let loved ones near this deplorable facility. Anyone at Marwood, and you know who you are, that treated a dying human being so horribly should be ashamed of yourself.

Called Marwood Nursing home in regards to rehab after surgery for a family member. Was told that the clinical team felt that the rehab needed was too difficult for them. The family member had back surgery and needs pt and ot to strengthen muscles and walk to be independent. Good to know for future referrals to other people who may have a need to quality rehab not to call Marwood Nursing.
I just want to say when my uncle Stanley Mitchell was in the dementia unit a couple years ago; I never knew the name if the beautiful person whe took the time to talk to him; to treat him with such a kind heart. Marlene Helms she treated him like family, she is a wonderful person with a kind heart. You are very lucky to have such a person as part of staff. Thank you so much Marlene for the loving care you gave my uncle.
very poor management. They hate people who speak up for what's right at all costs. They want people with no voice to work for them. The director of hr is deceitful and dishonest. The don is a huge bully to her staff and abuses her position greatly. She treats people very poorly and talks down to them as if she is superior. they make professional decisions based on personal feelings. staff are greatly used and abused super short staffed. resident care is poor due to rush training staff to the floor javing brand new aids and nurses training other brand new staff instead of experienced ones and poor follow up on the lack of care from staff that arent providing good care. they have allowed abuse and continued to keep the staff that was abusing the residents. hidden resident to resident abuse while state was in the building a staff member was asked to reword her witness statement as if she didn't witness the altercation by a manager. there are some great staff but as a whole it's such a downward spiral at the facility more bad then good occurs I wouldn't recommend taking a loved one here the response on this review is generic to all who leave a review they don't actually want anyone to reach out because they don't actually care I have copies of all the correspondence I've had nothing was ever done as for the rest thats for legal to sort out and they will
I did my knee replacement rehab at Marwood. I got excellent care. The PT was very helpful, food good and staff friendly. I also have a long term family member there who is getting excellent care.
