I cannot imagine who JS is or why they had such an unfortunate experience. I am grateful that I was here and not alone when my spouse of 73 years died. Thanks to the companionship and warmth of the residents and staff, it was much less traumatic than it could have been. I continue to appreciate being a resident of Maplewood.

Moving here four years ago was one of the best decisions my wife and I have ever made. Due to the warmth and friendliness of the resident community we soon became involved in the social life, activities, committee work and Board responsibilities. Throughout the pandemic we had no sense of loneliness or isolation. The food is superb. The management is competent, caring and congenial —which is reflected by hardworking, happy staff members who often go the extra mile to help a resident. This is a great place to live!
Everyone and everything is fake. The management made people vote to be best in Bethesda by making several fake accounts. When people come for tours they plan ahead of time and stage people in areas such as the billiards room. Stay away. It's not what you think. The first time you have any small issue the social worker will swoop in and take away your independence. Go to Riderwood. So much better. All it is at Maplewood is a glorified nursing home. They call the skilled nursing unit the Garden level to make it sound wonderful.There isn't even a garden!! All they want to do is get you in hospice to get the next sale. They allow African Americans to work there but not live there. The sales department does not market to those of color. Don't ask me how I know this just trust me that I do know this. Stay away.
Great retirement place. Spacious community rooms. The facility is very clean. Great reception area. Staff is very pleasant and professional. The person at the reception desk is extremely nice and helpful.
