A Challenging Experience with Lorien Health Services My family and I had high hopes when we chose Lorien Taneytown Assisted Living (run by Lorien Health Services) for my mother's care. Unfortunately, our experience did not live up to our expectations, and I feel it's important to share our concerns. First and foremost, the management of the facility left much to be desired. Communication with the staff and administrators was often inconsistent, making it difficult to stay informed about my mother's well-being and care plan. It felt like there was a lack of transparency and responsiveness when addressing our concerns. It was evident, based on conversations with Lorien employees and staff, that the caregivers were underpaid and overworked. This had a noticeable, negative impact on the quality of care my mother received. There was a high amount of employee turnover which led to discontinuity of care. Furthermore, the overall culture at Lorien Assisted Living seemed strained and not conducive to creating a comfortable and homely environment. My mother's experience there was often marked by a sense of unhappiness and discomfort, which greatly affected her well-being. While I understand that every assisted living facility may have its challenges, I believe that it's essential for families to have a clear understanding of what to expect when considering a place like Lorien Taneytown Assisted Living, or any of the facilities run by Lorien Health Services. In our case, it was a challenging experience that ultimately led us to explore other options for my mother's care. I hope that Lorien Health Services can use this feedback as an opportunity for improvement, both in terms of management and staff support, to provide a better experience for their residents and their families in the future.

I was admitted to Lorian after knee surgery. They told me my meds did not transfer from Howard County Hospital. I waited hours while I was crying in pain. My surgery ordered a ice machine to put on my knee. I was told not authorized. My doctor ordered physical therapy 5 times a 2eek. I was only getting twice a week. My doctor actually had to call social worker and then things starting getting into order. The nurses were wonderful. They were helpful at all times. I don't blame the nurses because their hands were tied too. The individuals that washed and dried my laundry were great. I have to have my left knee replaced but I will not go to Lorian, again. I also would not recommend them to anyone.
Recently, I had a dear friend in Rehab at the Lorien in Columbia. First I would like to recognize a particular CareGiver/Aide, Elizabeth Jamshed, for her outstanding, professional, and compassionate care for my friend and room mate. My background was in Bed SIde Nursing and I was in awe of Elizabeth. She was truly a "breath of fresh air". Nothing was too much for Elizabeth. She was extremely pleasant and obviously enjoys her work. Secondly, I also recognized the pleasantness and Professionalism among the Nurses. One Nurse, Nora, took the time to listen to my friend's frustration regarding the timing of her pain medication. and then followed up by contacting the Dr. and making adjustments to accommodate my friend's need. I would also like to add that the staff always appeared professional. Unfortunately, I also found it disturbing that in a place of REHAB, the PT person, whose services were the reason my friend was in rehab, were not accommodating or considerate of my friend's need for pain medication at a reasonable time prior to her PT session. The Nurses understood and were willing to accommodate this need, but PT was not. Therefore, when my friend was not able to perform as expected, she was told she had refused PT, without the real reason of not being permitted the necessary amount of time for her pain medication to be effective before PT sessions. This defeated the purpose fof her time in Rehab. Nothing was gained!
They offer you a job saying their going to send an offer letter and then days of them not responding back to your emails, calls or voicemails, they then send a letter in the mail saying they picked someone else with better qualifications. Truly unprofessional and poor communication.
Very nice agency!
