My mother has been a resident of Lorien Bel Air AL for a number of years. That has exceeded our initial expectations due in large part to the exceptional quality of care she has received. From the administrators to every department, she is treated with respect and dignity. The lines of communication have always been easy and open with the family. Mom feels safe and secure. Lorien has truly become our community.

If I could give them zero stars, I would. My mom had broken her hip and we thought rehab at Lorien would be perfect but it was anything but. Starting on the first night, she wasn’t given pain medication when requested (for 10-12 hours after requesting), to the point that rehab couldn’t work with her because of the pain. They recorded in the notes that she had “zero” pain, which was a lie. One night, the nurse/tech found it in her pocket hours later (they admitted that but it wasn’t in the notes). Then, after a few days of this, they put her on 6 hour doctor’s orders (meaning she gets it every 6 hrs no matter what) and the very first night they didn’t give it to her, but then when they realized the next morning, they gave my 99 pound mother 2 doses within 3 hours! Their biggest problem is my mom is lucid so they couldn’t just deny it and/or cover it up-so they ended up admitting there were issues. I blasted everyone in the chain because goodness knows what would have happened if she wasn’t lucid or if she didn’t have family. I pulled her after a week and filed a complaint with the State of Maryland. If you use this place-watch your loved one like a hawk! Edited to Add: I did speak with the Office of Compliance at the time of my mother’s care and was told they would definitely look into it. Now, several years later they want to “look into it again”.
When my dad was at Lorien, Bel Air, first in the Rehab Unit, then transferred to Long Term Care, he experienced great care. My mother entered the Assisted Living Unit over 3 years ago. When she told me she felt safe, I knew she was in the right place. Plentiful activities, delicious food, caring staff certainly makes for a wonderful environment. Any concerns I may have are listened to and addressed.
I had to make the decision to move my grandfather into assisted living. Him and I together checked into multiple places to see what he would like and what would fit his needs. We both felt very welcomed at Lorien from the start. Lorien offered so much more and was able to get him back to being active and more independent. They offer so many different activities throughout the day every day. The staff always checked on him and made sure he was ok and if he wanted to participate in the daily activities someone would make sure to get him where he needed to be. The meals were great he always talked about how much he enjoyed having different options and it was like eating in a restaurant. We had some really great staff members that treated him like family. They offer so many different options that makes it easier to enjoy life with less worries. He really enjoyed playing bingo, and the ice cream parlor. He went through a lot with medical issues they were always accommodating and having Doctors and Nurses onsite was great. It was hard for him and me with taking care of him but the move to Lorien really made a difference. If I had to make that decision again the only change I would have made is move him sooner so he would have had more time to enjoy all they had to offer. I could not thank the staff enough for all they did and all the care that he was given.
My mother has been a resident at Lorien Bel Air for 2 years. I can honestly say that she has received excellent care. Besides getting wonderful medical care, she thoroughly enjoys all the activities that are offered through the amazing activities department. Amy and her staff work so hard to provide stimulating activities for the residents. They always encourage family members to participate whenever possible. My mom's favorite activity is Bingo. Winners get coupons which can be used to buy items from the store located on the second floor. I always go to exercise class and Happy Hour on Friday afternoons. There are always special events scheduled such as Octoberfest and Trunk or Treat. These events are schedule in the evening so that family members can attend. Another activity that is offered is Relaxation & Aroma Therapy which is held every Thursday afternoon after a music program. Mariann
