My mother-in-law has been a resident of Laurel Cove for close to 6 years. The staff and residents are a loving family to her. She is kept engaged with well thought out activities. From participation through a book club, art projects, Bible Study, exercise class and games, she is fully involved. The meals are nutritious and tasty. The chef meets with the residents at least monthly to request meal input. Being greeted with joy by Victoria and Stephanie at the front desk set the tone every time we visit. Thoughtful engagement activities with Fe, Letty and Laura are so appreciated. Darcy and all the culinary staff truly cater to her taste. A home away from home like no other. We are truly grateful.

The very best part of being at Laurel Cove is the human interactions with those that are employed there. Specifically, Josh, Sally, Meghan, Jackie, Larry, Eva, Domenica, Mimi, Anne, Zeleka, Matthew, Augie, Crissy, Adonnes, Anita, Florence, Alea, Samantha, Zelalem, Ti Anne, Stephanie, Faye, and Leti are all superstars in their own right. They are what makes Larel Cove and Encore Communities shine.
Things might've changed since I've been here, but after a lot of thought I decided to come out with my experience because it's worth addressing. After my first few days of being here I could already tell how dysfunctional the environment was; people calling out every other day or just not bothering to show up, MC always being short, everyone being disgruntled and unhappy etc. The training is awful. They're not adequately staffed enough to train people for the amount of time they should be trained, a couple days of training seemingly being the standard. Management act like a group of high school girls and are rude and snarky. They put up a facade around family members and clients but when they're with the care staff that's when their true side comes out. I've seen people humiliated at our after-shift meetings rather than being pulled aside and talked to and this seems very unnecessary and unprofessional. As a team we need to pull each other aside and politely tell them what they're doing wrong, not bully them. The workload is unrealistic given the amount of staff we usually had in MC. 2 caregivers but we have multiple hoyer/two-person transfer clients AND one of the caregivers needs to stay in the living area at all times to watch those who are awake?? Seriously?? This doesn't work, and when we say it doesn't work no one listens. Overall, we were constantly way too short-staffed to provide the adequate level of care and yet were always scolded for what we could've done better besides always trying our best with what we were given. The turnover meetings during evening shift and NOC shift (the ones management weren't present for) were NEVER positive and filled with nothing but complaints about how awful the previous shift was and how the place needs to be run better.
I want to praise the Activity Director, Maria Fe Bernaldo . I met her in May 2024. She was kind, caring and thoughtful with the residents. My sister is a resident there. She loves her!
My sister has been at Laurel Cove for the last couple of years. They have provided a caring, safe environment and are genuinely concerned about the welfare of their residents. Staff members that have been particularly helpful are Victoria, Shannon and Zeleka. They are all extremely responsive and do such a wonderful job taking care of the residents. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone looking for a quality assisted living situation at a reasonable cost.
