It is always a pleasure to refer our families to Sunrise of Palo Alto. Their entire team truly know what it means to excel in senior care. They go above and beyond to provide the highest quality of care in a very welcoming community. I highly recommend anyone looking for a forever home for their loved ones to age in place to consider Sunrise.
I moved my parent's into Sunrise in 2018 having chosen it over other (and perhaps more fancy) places. The proximity to the restaurants and the Farmers Market on California St was a real draw. The amenities of Sunrise (the rooms, the common areas and the Dining Commons specifically) were very nice and, of course, the staff were always veyr friendly and helpful.
The care managers get 5 stars, they are an amazing bunch of people who really care about the residents. They are overworked, understaffed and I assume underpaid but do just an exceptional job providing loving care to the residents. Sunrise itself gets 2 stars. They do not have a solution at Palo Alto if your loved one is not appropriate for Assisted Living but cognitively not a fit for the Memory Care (Reminiscence) floor. Some Sunrise location do have a Terrace club that is designed for residents who are not a fit for assisted living or for Reminiscence. Palo Alto does not. Do not send your loved one to a Sunrise if they fit this description.
Note that the five star reviews have ZERO details. Did they pay for them or have their people do them? I had a relative live in this property and I wouldn't put anyone you care about here. They are HORRIBLE. They change staff frequently. The management was repeatedly dishonest. The food was a shame, but when relatives would visit, they'd put together a show that the residents didn't experience during normal times. This is a Corporate owned, profit-driven business, not a place for your family or friends. Consider The Commons (a locally owned business started after a family member needed a place), BridgePoint, The Vi, Channing or Webster House. Anywhere but here. Try to talk w/people who actually live in the place. ++++ Update: Since writing this review, the management claims to be reaching out to right any wrong. There's no obvious way to reply to them, so I'm adding my response here. I assure you the management had ample opportunity while my person lived there to improve things, but they didn't. They were devious and deceitful and are not to be trusted. They were in fact the source of many problems. This is a Corporate run facility that only cares about profits, can't keep good staff long term and should likely be put into another business where compassion is not key. There are MANY good places to live out your life in grace and comfort. When we saw this place, we assumed it was one of those. I've been on the inside and can now assure you it is not.
