Even though I had a poor experience with Homewood I still feel Homewood is one of the best nursing homes in Hagerstown. Saying that I've taken care of Alot of people as a caregiver that have been in Homewoods care. I was visiting my friend whom I've cared for for 4 years she's only been there a couple days. Worker came in to check on friend and she had been up a couple hours I politely asked when meds are given and let her know one med has to be taken 12 hours hours apart. She left and brought meds back. Couple hours later checked on friend and she has special needs and noticed things needed changed, worker said it gets chaged tonight at 6 pm I let her know she gets very sore quickly really needed chaged she leaves. Soon a nurse and worker comes back I was reminded i dont touch patient ( which i haven't) they found supplies to make change but was unclear about how to use. I showed how to install they changed and left. Next I get a call from family I need to leave Homewood called family! Suggestions: have a meeting with workers/ staff/ family/ caregivers so people can meet talk about needs of patient introduce everyone, talk about expectations and understand needs of patient if equipment or special needs how to install so there is a clear understanding of patients needs. I offered help and wasn't rude but must have hurt someone's feelings about needing help to do their job. Need to work together for best of patients. Very disappointed with Homewood at this point.

Unfortunately, the company that bought it several years ago is doing a disservice to the people who live there. They no longer have physical therapy or rehabilitation space for those coming home from the hospital. They charge the tenants if a nurse has to go to their unit. The food looks frozen and pre-made. It hurts my heart to see my loved ones who thought they had chosen their last home to Be I'm there.
So disappointed in how my mother was treated by some of the nursing staff at the rehab. The food was horrible, the care by some of the nursing staff was awful and we had to constantly ask for help. At time's we could not find anyone on the rehab floor to assist my mother. She was left alone in the bathroom for long periods of time on the toilet yelling for help. We regret leaving our mother at this rehabilitation/skilled nursing care home.
I recently helped a senior family friend move into an apartment at Homewood. We looked at several independent living facilities in the Washington County area before she decided to make Homewood her forever home. After living on her own for 54 years, it was quite the undertaking for her to downsize from a house to a 2 bedroom apartment. Needless to say, the move was just what she needed! All of the staff at Homewood were patient and kind while helping her navigate this new journey. The facility is clean, welcoming and friendly and their many amenities have a little something for everyone! I used to worry about her living on her own in that big house, now I get a sense of peace and comfort every time I visit knowing she is happy and secure while still having her independence. It was the best decision ever!
I can't really say enough good things about 95% of the staff members who work directly with the residents. However, the facility administrators absolutely don't care about human beings, and that includes the residents as well as staff members. They're just greedy liars. When my grandmother moved in there in 2016, we were told that residents become "part of the Homewood family," and that "Homewood never puts out any residents who run out of personal funds." Homewood just evicted a 95 year-old resident, my grandmother, who had not yet even run out of funds, but they were so worried she would go broke. Their "social worker" does nothing at all to help or comfort anymore. Her job is to harass people about money, too. The executive director tells members of the staff not to reply to family members (POA) about business. If you ever email any of them and expect or hope for a reply, you're out of luck. They're not professional enough to respond to emails. Beverly Dolby and Kathy Lanham are the exceptions because these ladies care about people, respond to messages, and ask how they might be able to help. Those ladies belong in human services. I really don't know where the others belong. My grandmother was basically evicted by Homewood and had to be moved today, 11/14/24, because she's getting low on assets, and Homewood doesn't really want Medicaid. Beware! They'll take all of your money over years, but they will evict you if or when you run out.
