You don't need to buy tickets. Church is very lovely.
Large neo-Gothic church, late 19th century, in the middle of Maarssen. Designed by Alfred Tepe, the most important architect after Cuypers to build in this style. Moreover, he had virtually a monopoly on designing churches in the then archdiocese of Utrecht - there were more than 70 of them! - and related institutions (orphanages, schools). A rather tall building with a large tower. The guide says: "In the difficult task of integrating a new, often quite voluminous building into an existing urban or landscape environment, few will have surpassed Tepe. The H. Hartkerk in Maarssen, for example, is so well integrated into the predominantly eighteenth-century buildings of this Vechtdorp that one almost gets the impression that the church was there first and that further buildings developed in its shadow."
I was here on Whit Monday with my 90-year-old father. The pastor and his parishioners picked us up during mass to sit with them and pray and sing with them. The welcome felt like a warm and healing bath and the church itself is quite small and atmospheric. Definitely worth repeating.
Incredibly beautiful church. Service sung and with choir and good organist! Grandma Annie had to leave us. Rest in peace dear Grandma Really many attendees..... shows how loved and involved Grandma was We hold Grandpa Jan in our arms!!
