Heartlands is a beautiful place. If all that is important to you I m not sure it can be beat for both the services offered and its exterior landscape. However the administration head , the director of Heartlands came to my cottage, after 2 swastickas were placed on front and back doors and after the police. Left. And asked me if I had done this myself. I was so horrified it took many months to leave my cottage again. After reporting this all to 5star corporate office many times, not receiving an answer, I report both Heartlands community in Ellicott city, and the 5 star corporation who owns it, as terrible places for anyone having a very bad issue resolved in a civilized manner to have any idea of living in Heartlands owned by 5 star corporation. They are totally unresponsive to residents serious, health threatening issues I am only issuing this review as a personal opinion, and it should not be reviewed as a general opinion of either place. 5 star representatives have contacted me to help resolve this issue. I will see after this meeting if I went way too far in my negative review. All I ever wanted was my questions answered. He said, and I saw he did call me a number of times in April

We moved our parents to Heartlands of Ellicott city six years ago and this was one of the best decisions we ever made. Unfortunately my father passed away a year later but they allowed him to pass with dignity there. My mother continues to be a resident at Heartlands and the care that she receives is extraordinary and stellar. The love and encouragement and emotional support that she receives from all the staff is beyond our wildest dreams. Everyone has always been so helpful to us and understanding of of any situation that might occur. We highly recommend this facility for anyone that might be considering an assisted living for their loved one.
My Mom is an assisted living resident. Although I live hundreds of miles away, the daily feedback I get from her is extremely heart warming, as is the feedback from my sister who lives nearby and is fortunate enough to visit. It is tough not being able to be with mom, but I could not be more gratefull for the sensitive, heartwarming and competent care she receives at Heartlands. I rest easy knowing she is in good hands.
I moved my mother to Heartlands from Florida when she was 91. There was an adjustment period but because the staff is very responsive to, and interested in, their residents, my mother's transition was a great success. She thrives. The HeartLands location is excellent; it is easy to go shopping and easy to get items delivered. The housekeeping and maintenance departments are well managed. Foodservice is more of a challenge. Although the cooks don't always hit the mark, the servers are wonderful and go out of their way to make things better if a resident isn't happy with a meal. The Wellness Center staff is excellent and Administration highly competent. All in all, it is a good place for Mom. I have recommended a 92 year old widower friend move there - I think living at HeartLands would give him a new lease on life.
My mother, at the tender age of 92, moved to the Independent living apartments at Heartlands. She has thrived at Heartlands for this past three years. We have been dazzled by the excellent service and more importantly, genuine concern for all residents of Heartlands. The longevity of staff is a testament to management of this organization. I could not be more thankful for this patient, kind and compassionate place.
