When it became apparent that our mother was a candidate for a care facility, we visited ~10 memory care facilities throughout Morris Counry (where Mom lived) and Bergen County (where I am). We also used some employer-provided resources to supplement the findings from 'A Place For Mom', and an Elder Care expert we hired suggested Care One's new facility in Whippany, based on her personal experience w Care One in Paramus. We have been a Harmony Village family for almost 2 years at this point. Overcoming some early issues (turnover and in my opinion staffing levels) we are thrilled to see the consistent & high touch dementia care our mother has gotten in Year Two. Facility is clean, very pleasant layout. The staff is cordial and friendly, doing God's work with expertise and patience (that I would never be able to summon). At the beginning of 2024, there was (my opinion) a directed effort to ramp up the care, the food and the activities for all residents. The current Director is a good human and executes at a high level. I have never not gotten a reply or answer to any questions or concerns. Mom's best friend, with direct dementia experience, has shared that she is thrilled that her HS friend is so well taken care of, often telling me that Mom is in good hands. And I agree. Our family visits often, which helps. If you are still reading, please know that I am a hard grader generally, but Harmony Village earns this 5 Star review. If you find yourself in need of a residence for a loved one with dementia, please consider Harmony Village.
My mom was recently a resident at Harmony Village in Hanover and I can not say enough about the quality of care she received. Mom was in the last stage of dementia and had multiple behaviors associated with this disease. Mom had previously been in another facility that was an assisted living with a separate dementia unit and the staff was not trained to handle common dementia behaviors. I would get calls regarding my mom’s wandering as “a problem “ & they even said “she went into other resident rooms uninvited “ . I have worked for 20 years with senior care and knew I had to find a home that specialized in dementia care. Harmony Village is a facility that is dedicated to dementia care & has 2 floors to provide services depending on what level of dementia care is needed for your loved one. The staff is well trained and were able to walk by her side, provide appropriate activities & keep her safe. They were loving & compassionate & understood the needs of an individual with dementia. When mom began to slow down with eating & drinking, they consistently offered different options and never gave up. I highly recommend this facility for any love one that is facing this difficult disease. Thank you to all the staff at Harmony Village- you have a special team & I will always be grateful!
This review is for the new memory care facility at Hanover. We had a bad experience with my father here. They represent to be experts in Memory Care and it couldn't be farther from the truth. When there was any minor development in his dementia they did not offer recommendations or medicine adjustments but rather mandated that we hire an outside nurse to manage him. Additionally they don't keep track of basic things like daily hygiene and diet. Massive turn over as well (never a good thing). The people we interviewed with were all gone by the third month (bait and switch). Try to reach out to me directly if you are looking for further detail on our tough experience. I know this is a difficult process for families but this business made it a lot harder. I feel like my Dad is in worse shape today primarily due to the service (lack thereof) received here. FYI - I already spoke to management on resolving this experience and while they cannot undo the damage they caused to my Father - they were unwilling to provide sufficient compensation that was satisfactory (i.e. they "nickled and dimed") which is no way to account for the treatment we had.
We moved my mom in Harmony Village after a less than stellar experience at another facility. My mom is new to the facility(just 1 month), but so far we are very happy. The staff is very attentive , kind and super interactive. MOST IMPORTANTLY they all have some sort of experience and many have degrees in cognitive repair and handling people with dementia. This is so huge as their compassion level is so great and their understanding of "what to do" or "how to handle "challenging situations are much greater than so many other facilities we have seen this reason.T he facility is brand new , so its bright, well lit, modern and super clean. They have a wonderful dining area where they hang out, eat and cook, they have an incredible arts and crafts room with lots of fun activities, a movie theatre room, an ice cream parlor room, and several charming sitting areas. They have several activities each day and the staff is so wonderful in handing each resident. They have a full time activity director and a full time OT/PT person a Both ladies are super sweet , smart, kind and incredibly genuine and caring toward my mom. I couldn't imagine not having them around to help each day!!. Also and super important is the floor my mom resides on has a level of care that is for moderate impairment only, so my mom is with semi like minded individuals that she can converse with and interact with. Both male and female. She has most certainly begun to make some lovely friends as well. Food so far seems like it is very decent. I met the chef and he was so kind and offered to add anything should we feel it is missing. There is a beauty parlor on the premises as well for added convenience. All around we are so happy. The director, sales staff, receptionist, cleaning staff and all the aides are just so lovely, easy to talk to and willing to do what it takes to keep things running smoothly. Everyone always has a smile on their face!! Once the place fills up even more I am sure it will be thriving and booming at its best. My sister and I are so grateful to have found this charm!
