My father experienced a fall in early autumn, which sadly marked the beginning of a decline in his health. Initially, the hospital planned to discharge him to a short-term physical therapy facility, but it quickly became clear that his dementia was progressing, and he could no longer live independently at home. The primary goal was to find a long-term skilled nursing facility that could provide him with 24/7 care and constant monitoring. I explored several options, including assisted living, but many were not suitable. In some cases, the assisted living facilities lacked skilled nursing, provided minimal supervision, and seemed more focused on sales pitches than on meeting my father's true care needs. Fortunately, the hospital social worker recommended several facilities, including Hamden Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. After receiving the physical therapy he needed, Dad transitioned to long-term care. He truly thrived there, and it was clear that the staff genuinely cared for him. From the nurses to the consulting doctors, social workers, admissions team, and administration, everyone displayed exceptional kindness, empathy, and professionalism. He had finally found the right place to call home. A heartfelt thank you to everyone at Hamden Rehabilitation and Health Care Center for the extraordinary care and compassion you showed.

My beloved grandmother was a resident here and I just want to say that the nursing staff was so very caring and compassionate to her. My family and I were very pleased with the way she was treated and cared for. Nursing staff always kept us up to date with her plan of care and supported the family by responding to any requests made. Thank you Hamden Rehab for caring for my grandmother, she is my heart ❤️
My sister was admitted there from a nearby hospital and within 2 to 3 hours and no call to her family members an ambulance came and took her back to the hospital with no explanation. They had no bed for her at the hospital. She was forced to spend the night and half of the next day in the emergency room before getting a bed again.. no explanation given, as far as I know the nursing supervisor never saw her and no explanation to the family, very unprofessional. Why did they accept her? Where was any communication between professionals?. Much pain added to an ill patient and family members .
My mother was admitted there for short term stay and at first everything was good until I questioned a few things I didn't like. My moms room mate apparently has a hearing issue so the TV was extremely loud, and she kept her window open slightly which kept the room cold, my mom is an elderly woman and she had a hard time trying to rest after she received her medication. I went to the supervisor and they said they would work on changing her room. The nurse came in and just said she will be the nurse for the evening. Everytime she came in she went straight to the other client and avoided my mom and had long conversations with that other client but no conversation with us. I stopped her and introduced myself and my mom and asked if there was anything she needed from us, she said she read the report and no?She came in again and the same thing went straight to the other client and on the way out, I asked her a question, I said can you on a professional level spend a few minutes with my mom, maybe get to know her, make her feel welcome here, maybe hey welcome to the center, she said for me she will, I said no not for me, for my mom the client, treat her the same way you treat the other lady. My mom took a few falls from being un attended and when my wife talked to one person, there response was we are not baby sitters here? They did change her room but it had mold, I immediately went to the supervisor and asked to get a room change and that I am OSHA certified and my mom is an elderly woman and my wife has asthma and this is not healthy for us to be sitting in here. My wife also aske about pull ups or depends, she was told they dont have any, so my wife asked, how do you care for the clients, they put disposable underwear on them and they double up and fold the sheets as bed liners. I feel that getting my mom out of that room should have been a priority. Because they took too long, and still had us sitting in there, I along with my family member decided to take her out for health reasons, I was told I need to sign a AMA form? I said i will if you put in writing the reasons why we are taking her out, they said they cannot write anything, so I declined and took her out. My mom only has a limited time left on this earth and if she goes, let it be from natural causes, not mold. Trust me, I thought I would never have to write a review like this, but you just can't treat elderly or anyone the way my mom was treated, not all the staff but just a few bad apples, it's a shame that we had to stay all day and evening to baby sit the baby sitters. After I came forth, I became the bad guy and was treated differently by a few staff. I hope they get there stuff together and make some changes, I recommend a few classes for staff like cultural compentency to maybe help them understand the population they serve and to better service our families, which are the client's
I am enjoying my stay here so far. This place is friendly and they try their best to make you feel at home. Physical therapy is helping me towards my goals as I look forward to my discharge back home.
