I can't give a zero, and this is why. In November with a long weekend for veterans day. My daughters grandmother was placed here in comfort care. This means she wanted to be kept comfortable and not have any further interventions done. She was admitted Friday about 1 o'clock. The assessment was done. We assumed all was well. Then comes Saturday, no medications, no positioning, no bathing or changing. My daughter who drove from Florida to be with her grandmother really didn't take notice as she was exhausted, and had gone out for awhile to get lunch. Sunday she calls crying saying that grandmother was in pain and that she hadn't been positioned or bathed. When I arrived I asked for her to have medication, and was told they hadn't come in from the pharmacy. (Since Friday????) They then went upstairs to get it out of the Pixel and although they gave her 1 medication we were told they didn't have the 2nd medication. Upon returning the nurse said that the aides would tell staff if the resident needed anything for pain. Obviously this didn't happen because no one was taking care of her. The supervisor was on the phone to the pharmacy and told me that Grandmother's meds and care wasn't put in the computer so there were no meds sent and that nobody had been assigned to her care. I was livid. My daughter and I positioned, washed her and changed her gown and pads. Monday the nurse manager enters to say she was sorry, and that she knew there was something she was forgetting on Friday when she left. Stated she was there to put out the fires. The social worker said that the aides don't come into care for persons who are dying when the family is there so as not to interrupt them. The aides were at 3 that Monday and when I asked at 11 am if someone was going to do care on grandmother , the aides came into the room making harsh comments about only having 3 aides and that they werent going to get the other residents ready for lunch because they had to do her care. Tuesday was better. Obviously the squeeky wheel got the oil. Unfortunately Grandmother died at 3 pm on Tuesday. Her last days were not very nice. So even if you are there with your loved one you will face push back whenever you ask for your loved one to be cared for. Sooooo sad.
While the place can get crowded the staff are friendly and ever present at pool side. Plenty of seating if you don't want to take a dip in the pool. They even have a dedicated wading pool for the wee ones. Price can't be beat as it's free to the public. Sorry I'm posting late being summer is over, but I enjoyed this so much better than the one in Cortland.
This Center was great a year ago. They have the best employees but lose them frequently. The Center needs to take care of their employees. I have had issues and brought them up to the management and nothing changed. The management does not like working with the families of their residents. The management will not communicate with the families and it is a lesson in futility to work with them.
My mother has lived at Groton Community Health Care Center for two and a half years. She has always been treated well and the staff are kind and friendly. I am glad that my mom is safe and well cared for at this facility.
