Most of my stepfather's stay at this place was as to be expected from a rehabilitation center. He is bed ridden. I did however notice that at night the nurses seem to turn the call alarms in the hall off and if they aren't looking for the light over a patient's door, it would take as long as an hour for a nurse to respond to his request. Most of the nurses were pretty nice and treated him fairly, but there were some who treated him rough when turning him. He has a titanium shoulder replacement on his left side and we asked the nurses several times not to pull on him from his left shoulder, but they did anyways. I accompanied him to a couple of his doctor appointments while he was in this facility. When we returned from the doctor's appointments they would take his after visit summary paperwork and refused to let me have them back. When he was released from the facility, they did not give me a complete list of the appointments that were scheduled as a result of the ones he went to while staying there. They have only given me the appointment date and time for his follow up from their care with his primary physician. I know he has at least 2 other appointments that they haven't given me, as well as a surgery scheduled that they refused to give me the information for. Also, as my stepfather is bed ridden I spoke with the social worker for the facility when they told me about his release (4 days before his release). I asked the social worker to have him a wheel chair, hospital type bed, and a hardy lift ordered, to assist us with mocving him around in the home. Today the company brought out the lift, and the wheel chair, but after several discussions with the social worker, the company still doesn't habe an order for the bed. It has been 5 days since they were originally asked to order this equipment, and the respone we finally received from the social worker was that his insurance required further documentation about his condition and status to allow the bed to be ordered. In my opinion there has been plenty of time to have had this settled and the full set of equipment ordered to arrive at the same time. In short, I am overall borderline satisfied with his stay at this facility, but their discharge process and how well they handle doing the necessary things to send patients home with what they need requires major work.
That place is disgusting and they don't care about their residents. If you can, take your loved ones to mount holly. They don't even deserve one star!!
I'm going home in two days and from day one I have felt welcome here. I am at the level I had wished to receive because of the genuine care and concerned staff for my needs. 500 hall thank you for helping me through. My Nurses and Aids are so kind. Andrea you never hesitate to help anyone and always stop in and check on me. Teresa you kept me smiling and reassured me on many matters and the food here is quite good to top. Thank You to all for a wonderful experience. Verol Medley
I'm excited to see the great changes that have happened at this facility. Having a New Management Team with Dereca and Vanessa leading the way was the best move for this place. Gaston County Community is lucky to have this Dynamic Duo. Great standards, easy to communicate needs and expectations for my loved ones care ❤️ Come see the changes for yourself . They sure are a blessing in disguise, Gaston County needs more people like this. As we all know we cherish our love ones and we all can not regulate their needs while they are not in our presence, this facility holds all the needs to my heart. What a blessing.
