My mother recently passed away and I cannot wrap up her affairs without acknowledging the great care and support she received at the Goddard House. She lived both in a one bedroom "traditional" apt. and then in the Memory Care unit. Due to her dementia my Mom could be, at times, quite challenging to deal with. Staff charged with her care were always patient, caring and respectful. Also, the Executive Director and Assistant Executive Director of Goddard were always very helpful and responsive to any questions/issues encountered. I feel fortunate that I was able to find this special "home" for my Mom during the last few years of her life.

My mother has been living at Goddard House for almost 14 years: five years in the traditional wing, and nine years in the memory care wing, Olmsted. The staff at Goddard House are my second family, and they are all wonderful with my mother. It's very hard to place a loved one in an assisted living facility, but do not hesitate to consider this gem! The main reason why my mother is doing so well, and has thrived in a memory care wing, is because of the kind, loving, creative, and dedicated staff. Goddard House has exquisite programming, with many arts, music, and gardening activities. My mother is fully engaged throughout the day, and even goes on outings to the Arnold Arboretum and the Museum of Fine Arts!
My grandfather has lived at Goddard House for a few years now, I genuinely think it has kept him alive in his final years. This is a man who thrives on human interaction, adored his family home and detested the idea of losing his independence in assisted living. My aunt researched and placed him at Goddard and I could not be happier. To provide some context, I have visited many homes of this nature in my life in the UK and USA. Most (and I mean no ill will to these establishments) feel like places you move to, to die in. Living in the UK, this year was the first time I was able to come visit him since he moved to Goddard a few years ago. The staff are wonderful (chatty, kind and interested in their residents), the building and facilities are top notch and well equipped and the food and activities are great. Residents were sitting in the reception eager to chat and open to newcomers, coinversing with each other in the hallways with their doors open, this is not what I am used to. My Grandfather loves people, loves entertaining and is nearing 100 years old. My fear was he would be staying in his room, eating crummy food and watching TV. The time I spent with him, we enjoyed chair Zumba classes, playing the piano and having an improptu sing along with passers by, writing poetry for workshops, watching movies with other residents... he was always checking the schedule and telling me he had a happy hour or an activity he wanted to do so I would have to visit at particular times. That is music to my ears. Goddard House has kept him and his mind engaged, comfortable (his room is well sized and very warm), allowed him to make new friends, play music to people and every single staff member is polite, professional and happy to be there. I want to get older so I can go to Goddard House and I am excited to return soon to see my grandfather so happy. Thank you Goddard House for keeping him in the picture and letting me forge more lovely memories with him.
The Dementia Training hosted by Goddard House was excellent! This was a great opportunity for our staff to learn more about dementia and caring for our dementia clients.
I'm very appreciative of the kind and patient support provided to my mother during the 4 years she was at Goddard. She was able to maintain a degree of independence that she could not have achieved elsewhere. I am grateful.
