There are not sufficient words to describe my family’s gratitude for the exemplary care they have provided my father. He moved in after suffering a stroke due to the neglect and abuse he experienced at his prior rest home. Naturally, my family was deeply concerned and scared to place him anywhere else after what we endured in the last facility. However, the staff here immediately put our minds at ease. From the moment he arrived, they treated my dad with the utmost respect, compassion, and professionalism. Kristy, his social worker, has been absolutely incredible. I don’t even have the words to describe how much she has meant to us. She’s been on top of everything—always meeting his needs, communicating with my family, and going above and beyond. She’s truly a rock star, and we couldn’t have asked for better care. What has also really stood out to my family is how, from day one to nearly a year later, the staff has gone beyond what is expected to ensure not only his comfort but also to address the trauma and anxiety my brother and I have experienced. They’ve taken extra steps to care for us, which is far beyond their responsibility, but it shows just how committed they are to their residents and their families. When we first moved my dad in, he had lost his personality—he was a shell of himself. But within a month of being here, we saw his personality return. You can tell he feels safe and comfortable now, and that’s entirely thanks to the people here. Every single person, from the cleaning staff to the kitchen team to the aides, genuinely cares about him. They know personal details about him and always take the time to make sure he’s well cared for. The staff even takes the time to stop me in the hall to tell me how much they adore my father, and this means more to me than I can ever explain. This level of care and dedication is something we will forever be grateful for. The care provided here should truly be the standard for any rest home across the nation, setting the bar for what compassion and professionalism in elder care should look like.

While I do believe my dad received great care while in this facility, this review stems from the financial part. Apparently my father has a past due amount from a few months that he wasn’t able to pay all of his rent there. I was made aware of this in the final days of his life when Marcia contacted me asking how it was going to be paid. The day before his death they debited his account taking almost everything in it. That’s fine as he did owe them money. But not even 3 days after his passing I started getting emails from Marcia stating that I am now responsible for this debt and threatening to take me to court over it. So while I’m trying to grieve the loss of my father and deal with funeral arrangements, I was being burdened with this debt. The emails and threats haven’t stopped. His caseworker there was well aware that he had no estate and no assets and a small life insurance policy to pay funeral costs and the rest was to be divided between his children. I had to contact an attorney to find out if I’m liable. He told me that unless they can provide proof that I’m responsible, then they are just trying to bully me into paying. This is how the Veteran’s home treats their veteran’s and family after they have passed. The nurses and CNA’s have always been great but beware of your financial situations!!
My Dad lives at George Whalen Veterans home, and I am so thankful for the entire staff there. My Dad is well taken care of, and he enjoys all the activities, which there are plenty of. The entire place is clean, and well organized. If there are any issues, a staff member is quick to give us any information. The transportation department has very dependable and reliable associates who also have great respect for the residents needs. The food served is very fresh and tasty, with multiple options available, even if a resident just wants a snack. The overall staff here is amazing. They treat all the residents and their families with the respect they deserve. Thank you for providing a safe and comfortable residence for our Veterans.
My husband is given excellent care in the Delta Pod.All the caregivers are very kind. The food is very good in fact they eat better than I do! The dietary staff serving the food are very friendly and are always willing to correct a menu if requested. The meals are not the same for all as some individuals are on special diets and their meals are prepared special.
The physical therapist there were incredibly helpful and always going the extra mile. Cassidy was great and very knowledgeable about getting my dad extra help when he was discharged. Thank you everyone.
