Stopped by an Open House the other day to look for a place for my mother, and was delighted with a vibrant, clean community that welcomed me with open arms. Eduardo De Hoyos was the one who showed me around, and put any concerns I had at ease, with a calm, cool and confident demeanor. Unfortunately it was a little too far for my family but in a different world this would be my mom's home! Thanks Eduardo!

I cannot recommend Gemstone for anyone seeking a vibrant active assisted living community for their family member. I had visited the community several times in the past so I worked with Monica by phone (I had moved out of town) to secure a unit near all the activities. My mom and brother also visited during a community event. We were told it was an active community with lots of senior activities. Unfortunately, it just wasn't true. My mom (an active 96yo) moved into the assisted living main building at the end of December 2024. From the first day, my mom was not happy and I let Monica know. Four days after her move in, I drove into San Antonio to visit. My mom, a normally spirited, active lady was not happy and appeared depressed. I spent a Monday walking around the main building and found the building was clean and bright but nothing was happening in the activities room, the main hall, the lounge not even in the hallways. This was the same experience on every day I was at Gemstone. The Assisted Living caregivers were nice but I only saw them visit my mom's unit on the first day of my 5 day visit. I was expecting more. I tried to work with our PoC Monica but found out she was no longer with the company. I was directed to Mr. Ed Dohoyos (exec director) and I let him know that my mom is not happy and hasn't even unpacked her boxes. I told him she's ready to move out. He said he wasn't aware that my mom was unhappy. I thought "how can he not know what's going on?" He did say he understands the concern and he knows the community is "dead". Mr Dehoyos asked me not to move my mom out. "Give me 7 days" to make some changes, he said. He offered to work on the community and send me videos of activity (since I would be leaving town in 2 days). Seeing my mom's condition, I declined his offer and moved her out of Gemstone. She lost her deposit and 1st month's rent but I'm glad she's in a better community and much happier.
My father gas been a resident here fir almost 2 years . He is very happy with the staff and other residents. The staff are very caring and make him feel like he is apart of a family ....I'm very thankful for Gemstone Senior Living at Castle Hills. Angela Jackson father Wendell Coleman ...
My husband has been in Memory Care at Gemstone. Monica Ponce is professional, and has excellent skills in Management. She responds in a timely fashion and continues to go the extra mile to help. The new Management team, starting at the top. Have responded quickly to my concerns and continue to make improvements to the facility. Liz, head of Memory care, continues to make improvements, adding new personel, working closely with the Medical personel and the care givers. Alma, is excellent and goes beyond her job description. All the personal I've had experience meeting and observing. Appear to be kind, caring and patient. There is a feeling of a large family...at Gemstone Memory care. My husband was at a large very expensive and, said to be one of the best in the city. They did have more activities. However, my husband tends to isolate. Truly, Gemstone was the perfect choice for my love one. I'm not being paid or receiving any benefits writing this review. I'm extremely selective and particularly....they have been on top of my loved ones care. They continue to help with long term care issues...and if you haven't met Lucy....she's a Delight.
