I was advised to read a review after poor care of the only grandma I've ever had. Her time there was not how someone should be cared for towards the end of life. Now I see the employee's are striking for more pay. YOUR PAY RATE IS BASED ON JOB PERFORMANCE! My grandma went to Elderwood for physical therapy. She had fallen several times at home. It was a huge decision to place her at elderwood Lockport N.Y. She was admitted in October, by January her ability to do everyday life was declining. The staff were wonderful in the rehab unit. So the family decided to permanently place her. I visted every week. Most of the time she was in bed. Her roommate stated they are understaffed and we can’t get out of bed today. We asked how many staff per residents. They said 2 staff/ 40 residents. This is not acceptable. Sometimes it would take an hour to get someone to get my grandma out of bed so we can go to the cafeteria and have lunch together. I’m devastated as My grandma passed in March. She had gotten the flu. When we tried to visit they turned us away. When she was admitted to the emergency room the Doctor stated she was so dehydrated that she was dry to the bone. It was to late. My heart hurts so bad that my grandmother suffered. Watching her struggle to breathe. Supposedly on The DNR their was an X on the line where it denies IV treatment. The health proxy did not sign it with a X. I believe it was follow play. Karma will come and get everyone of the employees that lack to do their job.
Very caring compassionate employees. They go the extra distance to make you feel welcome and comfortable. The food is good and the nursing staff is wonderful.
My mother went to the rehab unit here a little over a year ago and became a resident, she is still there today. Nursing homes have many challenges especially these days with staffing shortages. This nursing home is more like a Home. Mom has had a few issues since being there and the facility is most helpful and informative. They are also very kind and caring. I am always kept informed when mom has any new medical issues or incidents. They always contact me in a timely fashion, sometimes even more than once. They always respond to any questions or concerns I have immediately. It's a well-maintained facility and kept clean. Mom loves the food, she gets to select her meals daily, very cool. Everyone is very nice and when they have a bad egg, they get rid of them, even with staffing shortages. They won't compromise the care of their residents just to fill a position. From the administrative staff to the cleaning crew with all the nurses, aides and everyone in-between, they all care about mom and provide all she needs, I am forever grateful. Special shout out to my favorite nurse, Kate. She definitely goes above and beyond, it's almost like we are related now, she feels like family to me. Making the decision to join the Elderwood at Lockport team was the BEST decision. As a RN contemplating different avenues to take in my nursing career, I am so glad the path lead to Elderwood. The administrative team is absolutely outstanding and supportive. The staff genuinely supports each other and wants only the best for each and every person ( residents and staff). The community of Lockport is VERY LUCKY to have this facility in their backyard because the entire team brings the old fashioned values that is so beloved to each and every resident as well as to each other I would highly recommend to any nurse or person looking for a great facility to place to their roots and invest their career in, this is the one!!
