I had an interview with this place, which i had been told according to the job I applied for, that it was a full time job. Found out that wasn't true, amd that I could only work 2 days a week totalling 18 hours. Then I was told if they are gonna go foward with me and the hiring process, that they would call me. But if they did not call me, it meant no job. I believe this is very unprofessional. I think people deserve a call even if it to be told no, but be given a reason to why they were not hired so the would have something to improve on. Was told multiple times I would get this courtesy call and still haven't. This is absolutely ridiculous.

I hear residents comment daily that they "are so glad they made the decision to live at Covenant Village." The freedom and community they find when they move in is life changing. Staff goes above and beyond daily to meet their needs and put a smile on residents' faces. As one of the staff members, I am grateful to have purpose in a job with a faith-based mission.
Covenant Living in Axelson Manor is not up-to the standards that Paul Brandel had when he built this facility many years ago. The changeover of staff raises questions on salary, lack of expense on daily food offerings for residents is below standards, lack of trained senior activity specialists is lacking, same non-stimulating mental activities offered twenty years ago, medical care from facility doctors is questionable, as in reporting back to residents medical findings. If Paul were still with us he would be extremely disappointed in the care residents receive. Lack of communications with residents from staff is done by rumor through the facility, not direct contacts. We thought the facility was a five star home, but sadly it is not.
If I could write this review without having to select any stars, I would. When my grandmother moved in 3 years ago, this was a wonderful place for them to live out the winter of their lives. This organization has since changed and it has not been for the better. There is not one day that goes by that my grandmother doesn't complain about something. From the food to upper management there is always an issue. If your loved is experiencing pain after hours, it's likely they will not be able to get medication because the powers that be have decided the only thing they care about, is money!. My grandmother has basically sold all of her possessions to live in this community and apparently, it's still not enough. She was told upon signing her life away that she would receive 24 hour care, with access to nurses as well as aides. They lied. They will leave your loved ones in pain until they are ready to relieve them. They charge their residents for a meal plan and if the person decides they want to eat dinner in their apartment and/or room, they are charged for doing so. And this place calls it's self a Christian based community. The only reason my grandmother refuses to leave is because she really likes the care she receives from the nursing staff. The nurses and their assistants are always there, willing to help and empathizing with their residents. It's a bright spot in an otherwise hellish place. All of the 4-5 star reviews.. they were written by current and former employees. If you want your loved one to live out their later years in a peaceful and loving environment, TAKE THEM SOMEWHERE ELSE! They used to be Covenant Village and now they are covenant living, when the name changed..... everything went to hell. They only care about how much your loved ones can afford to pay, they care nothing about them! BEWARE
In another year or so, retirement communities will occupy every street corner not previously commandeered by Starbucks, Walgreens or a mattress store. Anyone evaluating such communities should always ask the question that sales people hate to hear: What makes this community different? Leaving aside location and pricing, one retirement community is pretty much like the next. I certainly found that to be true when I was seeking a retirement home. So what makes Covenant Village of Northbrook different? The people – the staff and, especially, the residents. When I visited other places, I seldom witnessed residents hurrying from one place to another. In fact, in some I seldom saw residents at all -- and when I did, they pretty much kept their lips sealed and their eyes straight ahead. But at CVON, I saw residents scurrying about (to the extent that people of age can scurry), and not one ever passed without smiling and saying, “Hi” or “”Hello” or “Hey.” I even got a “Howdy” from a gentleman I now know is a native Texan. You can’t fake friendly, so based on what I saw and heard, I decided this was the place for me – among men and women who are active, amiable and supportive.
